I wrote last Saturday about the insanity displayed by some Oklahoma Senators, Republicans no less, by passing a bill that would tie Oklahoma's Electoral College votes to the national popular vote. In case you missed that discussion, you can find it here. For further analysis that goes beyond what I provided, The McCarville Report has a post that is a must read about the National Popular Vote Fallacy.
In regards to the bill that was passed by the Oklahoma Senate, I have been concerned about how it would fare in the House. I can now report that the bill will not be heard in committee in the Oklahoma House. According to my source, who asked to remain anonymous, the bill is effectively dead, at least for this year. Keep in mind, however, how the liberals operate. They will not forget what they are after. I would expect the bill to be brought back up at a future date, should the liberals ever take charge of the Oklahoma legislature.
Even in the reddest of red states, conservatives must watch closely to our liberties and freedoms. We must remain true to the foundations established by the Founding Fathers. Killing the lunacy that would tie our Electoral College votes to the national popular vote counts as a win in my book.
Good.
Absolutely. It was news to my ears when my source informed me the bill was dead.
Thank goodness
Saul Anuzis our former GOP chairman and RNC committeeman from Michigan used to push this crap. Just look at what electing senators by statewide popular vote has done.
Glad to hear this...
WTH were the Repubs in that Senate smoking?
What the heck is wrong with the OK state senate? We’ve gone batty.
Sanity prevails
We are finished when the largest urban centers with their huge Dependent Class elect presidents by popular vote.
Why the hell would anyone do something like this?
You effectively nullify your own state’s votes.
That’s something I have tried to explain to anyone who thinks going to a national popular vote is a good idea. It seems to fall on deaf ears, much of the time.
You are absolutely correct.
Even here on Free Republic, the wackadoodles make the occasional appearance as was the case on this thread: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3123271/posts
Libs in big cities are the ones pushing this kind of idiocy.
Not all Libs are Democrats. There are plenty ‘across the aisle’.
My GOP state Senator voted for this. I just wrote him an email to let him know I will not vote for him in the next GOP primary.
Mike Mazzei in Oklahoma Senate District 25 is not going to win his primary. Maybe I should challenge him if no one else does.
These Republicans are making the same progressive error that was made in passing the 17th Amendment. And if it passes, its consequences will be just as bad.
Their willingness to do this indicates that they do not know enough about US history to serve as representatives in their state, and should be deposed in the next election.
Why did Oklahoma Republicans pursue such a hare-brained idea? What’s going on?
