The American Flag Daily: Corregidor Liberation

On this day in 1945, the battle to liberate Corregidor Island began. Lasting nearly 2 weeks, Corregidor was finally recaptured by American and Phillipine forces.

"I see that the old flagpole still stands. Have your troops hoist the colors to its peak and let no enemy ever again haul it down." -General Douglas MacArthur at the flag-raising ceremony following the end of the battle.

My uncle was a cook with MacArthur in the retaking of Corregidor...

Bummer they couldn’t hold out longer. They were not prepared. A Dem was in the W.H.

I remember this saying when I was young during WW11: “With the help of God and a few Marines, MacArthur returned to the Philippines.”

The Japs were so certain that a parachute landing on top of the island was impossible in windy conditions that they left it undefended.
