Its hard to figure out what to make of the people in this story. Should these people be laughed at or pitied?
Recently a group of 25 self-described Students of Color held a sit-in to support poor English writing skills. They whined about the racism of being offered constructive criticism of their lack of grammar, spelling and punctuation abilities.
As products of dysfunctional government schools, many if not all of them have little or no writing skill. Many of them dont know they have no writing skills. They have been lied to and had their heads patted so often by paternalistic liberals they can no longer recognize the truth about their shortcomings.
We can expect little else from students who have never been dealt with honestly.
What makes this situation still more ridiculous is that the target of their protest was...

Rachel Jeantel, an illiterate with a 3.0 GPA, will some day be a Superintendent in a School District making $200,000. She will be “teeching yo chiiren.”
I learned on one of those beasts. Typing class in middle school. No auto correct, no room for errors.
Imagine the kids of today having to work with this.
I saw a Craiglist ad that said something like, "if you want to ax me questions, call XXX-XXXX."
I said to my wife, "we're not interested."
Predominant....

Predominate
1.
be the strongest or main element; be greater in number or amount.
“small-scale producers predominate in the south”
synonyms: be in the majority, preponderate, be predominant, prevail, be most prominent
Looks like either or........
squid marks ? ? ? ? ?
Maybe the accident involved a young guy on a sport bike.
I stand corrected. I haven’t had a lot of interaction in a while so I’m starting to forget ebonics. Like any foreign language if you don’t use it you’ll forget it.
Is that ebonics French? 'Cause there don't be no apo-stra-phee in "quelle".
Hmmm. That sounds like a lot of comments I read on FR.
If I understand correctly, you were using "predominate" as an adjective to describe (or modify) the word "It" -- and the correct adjective form is "predominant".
The word "predominate" is not an adjective; it is a verb (an action word), as in, "Blacks predominate in American professional sports teams." In that sentence, "professional" and "sports" are adjectives. In the sentence "He sports a new ball cap every year," "sports" is a verb.
Gotcha....thanks.....
I did ‘question’ it etc but it appeared to ‘fit’ in regards to ‘larger amount’ so I went with it...It was my first choice but it didn’t ‘look right’ but went with the ‘larger amount’ after checking it....
Thanks again....

I am guilty of FR grammar policing! Arrrrrrgh! Thank you for taking it so graciously!
NO PROBLEM!!!!
You had a ‘legitimate’ response seeing as I had mentioned ‘misspelled’ words ‘bothered’ me... In fact without that line I am sure you would have just ‘clucked’ and went on with it...
At 74, if nothing else, I have learned that
“As long as you are green, you continue growing, once you get ripe the only thing left is to rot”.
I commented (on line) on a very poorly written newspaper article that had facts screwed up, couple misspelled words, running sentences and my eyeballs were getting sore.....
Anyway, I commented that the editor must be asleep etc and some woman(?) chastised me for having no compassion with the person in the story - I was going to respond but figured if I had to spell it out to her she wouldn’t understand it anyway.
I run into this type racism all the time in NM. Hispanics love to speak Spanish around White people and just assume that you can’t be “Anglo” and bi-lingual.
I always get a laugh out of their expressions when I say something to them in Spanish. They usually laugh and look shocked. I’ve even had some people try to correct my pronunciation!
If I treated them that way when they said “sheecken” instead of chicken or “chower” instead of shower I’d be the racist. Go figure.
Search it.
