My husband has had several and they have all worked out just fine, no problems.
I need one too....I lost a baby tooth two months ago and need an implant...
so any advice is appreciated.
Dental tech has come a long way.
In better times, I had a gold implant, then gold went up.
Had it extracted, sold off and went on a vacation to Fiji. I think I regret that.
Grab your dentist by the nads and explain to him how you two are not going to hurt each other.
My nephew just got one. It looks great.
I have some relatives that got them.. they despised partials for a bunch of reasons (painful, caused swelling etc). They are very happy and said that after a few months.. you actually “forget” it isn’t your “natural” tooth. I do know if you get nothing, the chances of the teeth around the missing one can fall out.
I have one and it’s wonderful. Just do some due diligence in finding an experienced dental surgeon to do the work.
I have one, total cost about 5K. It is a perfect replacement. I chose to have the tooth replaced not only for cosmetic reasons but not having the implant would have negatively affected my other teeth in that region of my mouth. I could have saved a couple of thousand dollars by shopping around, but I chose to have the procedure done by my periodontist of 12 years who has saved several of my teeth.
Get thee first to a great endodontist that does micro root canals and perhaps the tooth can still be saved.
Failing that, I've needed some tooth implants as well as bone implants.
Both require the very best oral surgeon you can find and afford.
I was unfortunate enough not to have found that wonderful endodontist until after having two root canal failures and needing to have the teeth extracted.
The bone and titanium implants have worked out well but don't expect the process to go quickly, as it does not, or at least should not.
We go to Tijuana Smiles in Mexico and it cost a fraction of what it cost in the states and the care is just as good.I got 3 crowns for 900.00USD and my American dentist wanted 4500.00USD!
Anyway, implants (titanium posts set in bone to mount crowns on. Titanium fuses well with bone) are the best option for permanence. A bridge type of tooth is removable and relies on two surrounding teeth for stability. Over time they need replacement as teeth shift in the mouth...if they shift...so it can be as expensive as an implant. So it depends on your age. A younger person would be best served by implants and crowns. An older person may want to opt for the bridge type of appliance.
Just relaying what I know from my dental surgeon.
I place lots of implants from molars to incisors. Ive yet to have a failure. They’re easy to place and look and function like the original tooth. Go for it!
I had an implant. Lost a single molar on the top back right. An implant doesn’t really cost all that much more than a bridge, and it’s a whole lot better. It’s been in a few years now, and it’s just another tooth. With bridges you have a real problem getting food particles out.
My lower right first molar was a crown. A few years ago I was brushing and it came off and spun around the sink. I figured it would just need to be cemented back on until I looked at the underside and saw dead tooth stuck to it.
A bridge was $3K and would maybe last 10 years, an implant was $3.3K and was forever. Got the implant and have had absolutely no problems.
I was glad to be rid of that molar. It had vexed me for years, like the time it fractured while I was in England headed back to Alaska in time for Memorial Day weekend.
I’m going to Costa Rica to get dental implants.
I have all my top teeth taken out and and 5 implants and dentures made all for the cost of about 20 grand, which probably would've been 40K in the states.
Was it worth it? Absolutely.
But like others said shop around.
They do everything and it cost a fraction of what American dentist charge and their dental offices blow away my own American dentist office.I know someone who got a 20k dental job done there for 4500USD.
If you want to go metal free and avoid the risk of dark roots showing, you can use Zirconium, which is also more biocompatible.
