For starters, just because you have (or had) a tooth abscess doesn't mean you must have the tooth pulled and replaced with an implant.

Get thee first to a great endodontist that does micro root canals and perhaps the tooth can still be saved.

Failing that, I've needed some tooth implants as well as bone implants.

Both require the very best oral surgeon you can find and afford.

I was unfortunate enough not to have found that wonderful endodontist until after having two root canal failures and needing to have the teeth extracted.

The bone and titanium implants have worked out well but don't expect the process to go quickly, as it does not, or at least should not.

This is an old tooth with a root canal/crown. The root fractured. My dentist referred me to an oral surgeon right away.

Over the last two years the tooth has had a lot of problems. I’m glad it’s coming out.

I had a similar experience to zerosix. Look for oral surgeons that specialize in implants rather than a general dentist. I had too much bone loss at the extracted molar to get an implant, so I have a permanent bridge instead. At first it was sensitive and would chew on the other side. After a year chewing normal, eating anything, like it never happened.
