President Obama called on Congress to make 2014 a year of action for the economy starting with extending emergency unemployment benefits.
In his weekly address, the president touted the gains the economy has made in the last few years, while urging policymakers to do more to boost jobs and put people back to work.
The first item on the agenda should be getting federal unemployment benefits for the long-term jobless back in place, he said. That program was allowed to expire at the end of 2013 when Congress failed to extend the program, cutting off benefits for 1.3 million Americans still looking for work.
Lawmakers are currently debating extending the program, and Obama urged them to act swiftly to get it done, while jabbing at Republicans for demanding its extension be paid for and paired with other job-boosting reforms.
This vital economic lifeline helps people support their families while they look for a new job. And it demands responsibility in return by requiring that they prove theyre actively looking for work, he said. But Republicans in Congress just let that lifeline expire for 1.3 million Americans.
Congress needs to finish the job right away, he added.
The president also touted his future efforts to highlight the economy, saying he plans to focus on high-tech manufacturing and education in the next week, while meeting with major CEOs later in the month to help get more of the jobless back in the workforce.
And in his State of the Union address at the end of the month, Obama said he wants to embark on a national mission of making sure our economy offers everyone who works hard a fair shot at opportunity and success.
After everything youve done to recover and rebuild from crisis these past five years after all your hard work and sacrifice thats what you deserve, he said.
Those are exceptionally painful charts...*sigh*
Like Levin always says, in this alternate universe of the Utopian Statists, grim reality for the people is constantly covered up and twisted.
Words are used to do this, very carefully chosen words.
It’s all lies. It’s sheer propaganda.
Levin said recently, it’s Stalinist. Joe would be proud of it. The people are supposed to fall in line behind it and shut up, no matter the truth that they KNOW...
And I’ll add, CW, the Republican Elite Old Guard are doing their share of this in their own way for their own purposes.
Thanks for nothing, GOP-E...
When Boehner poked the base - Tea Party conservatives in the chest (with such venom) after the “shut-down” he publicly laid his cards on the table. A real eye-opener. The mood in the GOP will not improve until he steps down or is removed as Speaker.
Amen.
A five year emergency, is like the Soviet 70 years of bad weather.
Nothing that MADE IN THE USA won’t solve. Exporting jobs to China is good for Wall Street, bad for Main Street. Instead of getting a pay check from employers and voting Republican, Americans get a support check from Government and vote Democrat.
Obama has discovered that you can lower the unemployment rate by disappearing the workforce. Look for that to continue.
Here a thought:
Since there are 3 applicants for every new job bring more immigrants in and see if we can get it up to 5 applicants for each new job.
Lets raise the minimum wage so that more seniors can reenter the workforce because a minimum wage part time job would be more worthwhile.
I think what we may be seeing is that the people getting the new jobs are coming from the pool of people that are not reported as being in the workforce such as spouses, retirees and immigrants.
Obam’s red line on jobs. Ironic his plan is only about paying people not to work. Hey, why not mandate everyone has a job just like Obamacare mandates? Or follow Pelosi’s logic and just deem full employment?
Smells like another “recovery summer”...among other things
Biden: Hey...What’s this in my pocket?....oh wait, that’s my thingee...never mind.
These malignate degenerate LIB/DIMs are pathetic and disgusting. Fools.
