Here is my problem with this.
If laws are to have merit then they are enforced blindly because of the inherent value of the law. If laws have an intrinsic value or an agreed to sacred nature they are enforced because of intrinsic value.
If laws are only enforced when somebody is mean to cops then the laws have no intrinsic value anyway. Therefore the jobs of cops have no intrinsic value.
The cop approached him with the expectation that he must communicate with her. She pissed him off when he refused.
His comments to the officers reflected not his disrespect for the officers as much as the intrinsic lack of respect for their jobs that the officers were showing.
Officers want respect? Don’t be a ninny.
As far as his comments that they could quit any time and become productive members of society? He was absolutely correct. Public officials are by definition leeches. They swill at the public trough. Years ago, college I came to a crossroad. I was in the Army. I thought about being a cop. I made the conscience decision to become a producers, not a consumer. Others make the opposite decision. Anybody who can go to work in the public sector everyday without a twinge of guilt is either stupid or a willing participant.
West of Austin is an area called West Lake. When I lived there back in the 90s it was against the law to smoke outside. Even in your own front yard. I assume it still is. It’s also against the law to smoke closer than thirty feet from the door of any public building. A smoking section in a restaurant has to have a separate ventilation system. Smoking is not allowed in bars. That is one big blue part of Texas.
So the thugcop detains him illegally (from all appearances) then gives him a ticket for loitering? See my earlier comment...
[ As I said before. Gestapo. American Gestapo.
Your papers. Show me your papers. ]
Oh come one, don’t you know that limited governments are the only governments that ask for “papers please” or so my liberal law professor told me....
I never went to law school. That gives me an edge. I have not been indoctrinated, nor have I been subject to their endless propaganda and exposed to their twisted worldview.
Yeah she worked hard to figure out something to charge him with. Because he was so vewwy mean to her.
As a society....we are WAY past all this.
We are in a soft police state currently. The feds are setting up an electronic barbed wire fence around Americans.
DHS granting millions upon millions to local law enforcement to upgrade their capabilities just shy of the military. Remember Obozo’s declaration in having a civilian force just as well equipped as the military? Well?
Cops are hyper-vigilant. Not completely, but building daily, all Americans are suspects.
You see, communist countries began little by little embracing some capitalism...all the while maintaining firm control over the populace. America embraced capitalism, all the while moving toward socialism and forming a firm control over the populace.
The whole “asking if he was smoking” is only a symptom of what is occurring nationwide. Control over the population.
This fella, in my humble opinion, had every right to stand outside and smoke a cigarette he so chose to do so unless of course he infringed upon someone else with his smoke. Kinda what you'd see at a diner. Someone attempting to enjoy a meal while having some ding dong blowing smoke toward their table.
This all is so much bigger than this kid being harassed for smoking or not. Large sodas...or not. Salt on the table...or not. Seat belts...or not.
Am I making my point?
So he says he wasn’t smoking and the cop says she saw him smoke but she wrote him a citation for loitering because she detained him and caused him to tarry. WTH?
I think he’s right. It’s his hoodie and manner of dress that they resented. I’ve been to SLC and they all dress like clones: dress shirt, tie and khakis for men. My husband didn’t fit in with jeans and a plaid shirt.
They know if you are from there or are a visitor.
I always ask why we give so much power to strangers with guns. People always answer that it is the only way...
I just don’t know about that. Must be a better way.
Oh I am with you.
I would knock this whole rotten stinking mess over. We have the model. The Federal Constitution with enumerated powers. We are just so far away from that model.
Most importantly people do not trust people and they demand a strongly armed aggressive militarized Police force with vast and undefined powers.
That’s what we have. What our neighbors demand. We have what many Freepers demand.
Lutsy can you just splain so I’ll know if I want to watch?
Oh what the hell. Just post away. No need to watch the damn interminable morass anyway. We all have opions that we pull right out of our azzez. You won’t be any diffrent. Post away FRiend!
Folks around here believe we can take care of ourselves. We don't need big brother gubbamint to do for us.
Cops are all about their sensitive egos. And so was the kid. But the kid doesn’t have the power to ruin innocent people’s lives on a whim.
good distinction sir... Or Madam. But “stinkerpot’ could not possible be a babe... Right?
You should take a hugh risk. After all everyone has to take a leaks sometime!
Still a male, last I checked. Except when manual labor is in the offing. Then my masculinity goes right out the window.
He wasn't loitering until they detained him and made him a loiterer.
He rewound, and he had told her he was not smoking and never had smoked. UTA property, yes, but open to the public free movement from the bus unloading. The allegation of smoking then went to loitering, then to trespassing, then to criminal trespassing, then a class c misdemeanor for refusing to sign the citation. She should have written the ticket, and departed, BUT, she knew she didn’t see him smoking. She was looking for a problem to solve. I did not like any of the written comments at the end of the video. I have many police officer friends, and they are all decent. There have been a few jerks over the years. They are the one’s who leave. This female cop just has a bad attitude. I would march this video right into the courtroom.
