Secondhand Smoke, Third-Rate Science
Coach is Right ^ | 12/18/13 | Michael D. Shaw

In a perfect world, it wouldn’t be necessary for me to begin this article by affirming that I am not a supporter of smoking, nor am I a paid shill of the tobacco industry. But in our real world–in which a goodly amount of scientific research grant money is awarded on the basis of sensationalized fearmongering results–those who question the validity of such results are often attacked.

“Kill the messenger” is hardly a new phenomenon, having been recorded as early as 442 BC in the play Antigone by Sophocles.

That said, let’s proceed to the matter at hand: The overblown (sorry, couldn’t resist) dangers of secondhand smoke. We’ll start off with the latest findings, as presented at the June, 2013 meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

“Among never smokers, any passive smoking exposure and most passive smoking categories did not significantly increase lung cancer risk, compared to no passive exposure; however, passive exposure as an adult at home for 30 or more years was associated with increased risk, of borderline significance.”

These conclusions were reached based on an analysis of data...

I guess you didn't read the article.

They never have to read the article. Their mind is made up and nothing you or the article can say will change it. If they see "smoking" mentioned in the title, it gives them another opportunity to shout how much they HATE smoking, smokers, and smoke. Maybe throw in something about how smokers are stupid, poor, and otherwise disadvantaged.

There will seldom be a mention of the loss of freedom, personal choice, or unfair taxation. Anti smokers, anti gunners, and anti big gulp writers share quite a lot, in that respect.

Sounds a bit like the left’s jihad on “assault rifles.”

Indeed. They're probably busy trying to invent a detector to use in airplane lavatories and elsewhere just so they can bust those evil "vape" users.

I was in Costa Rica last week and discovered that the e-cigs are actually/formally banned in their airport (they currently have a Socialist president). Casinos did however allow them, so that was good.

“Thus, only weak minded people, often the poor, smoke.”

I’m not poor,I’m not weak minded,and I like my cigarettes——and coffee.

I’m also 81 years old and have outlived many friends, smokers and non-smokers alike.

You are pathetically judgmental.

Shame on you.

Do a search on him and you'll find the post about his amazing and stunningly beautiful girlfriend.

This isn't uncommon with this type - fantasy girlfriends. What sad, isolated lives they must live. They are isolated for a reason.

His spelling sucks, too.

Wait, so Drango has TWO FR accounts?

That boy is busy!

So I was at a bar this weekend celebrating my brother's birthday. We were watching the Seahawks.

I saw some woman exhale what I thought was smoke from a cigarette.

I was overjoyed, because I thought that the cramped bar was allowing some "freedom".

Sticking it to THE MAN, like in the 60s.

I was sadly let down when I found out it was an e-cigarette, which has no odor.

Damn!

I had hoped I was seeing some sign of rage against The Machine.

It could be even worse than that - the evil twin has an evil twin!

Sticking it to THE MAN, like in the 60s.

LOL! And all those dull, lifeless 60's dweebs ARE the man now.

I sure do miss America, too.

I am completely dubious of claims that second hand smoke causes cancer. That said, my house growing up reeked of cigarette stench, as did our cars, in which my parents smoked constantly as we travelled.

It stinks. And it makes everyone and everything around the smoker stink. When I got to school each day I smelled of smoke. The only saving grace was that I didn’t know just how bad it was until I got out of the house and went to college.

See replies like this one show how easy it is to brainwash a population.

Notice the lack of original thought in this one, its just parroting the same thing they have been told by the anti smoking crowd. lol

Funny, I know lots of well off people who smoke, they just seem to hide it from the fascists better.

I don’t know if tobacco causes cancer or prevents it though. There is apparently one compound in tobacco that may show some anti cancer properties.

That would be prostate cancer, which nobody cares about. There ain't any ribbons around for that.

But IT NOT THEIR CHOICE to POISON OTHERS.

Apparently, you don't pay attention to the news.

There have now been three (3) massive studies going back to the 1980's that say the opposite.

The latest was released today and involved 180,000 smokers and their families over 30 years.

Get rid of your hysteria.

People are quick to say that smoking doesn’t cause cancer but they never mention C.O.P.D.. If you have ever watched someone die of COPD you might think that a fast moving cancer would be better.

Thank you. My apartment complex recently started a no smoking on the premises policy (unclear if this meant in the apartment); not at the pool, not on the grounds, not on porches or balconies.

The letter said “concerns over second hand smoke” made me cringe so I went to the office and asked them about all the charcoal grills they provide around the complex and all the 2nd story fireplaces. They just stared at me like “what?”

Brainwashing is an amazing thing.

New world order always sets up fights between groups of people. Divide the population into sets of people according to various attributes; the attributes are then used as objects of hatred which is ginned up through brainwashing campaigns.

By using different sets of attributes to define a number of groups, one can basically get an unsuspecting part of a nation's population to be hated by the sum of all the other synthetic "groups". The attributes, of course, can be racial, economic, religious, regional, cultural, intellectual, etc. NWO has long ago quite thoroughly taken over the UK and turned it into a base of operations using these and other techniques, with the turning point, of course, being when they successfully installed William of Orange on the throne, who subsequently allowed the creation of NWO's Bank of England.

These techniques are what the Nazi party organizers (who were NWO stooges) did in pre-war Germany. Only a handful of key NWO financiers within the Nazi party were in on the secret that NWO had them doomed to lose the war from the outset, that Germany was simply being used as a pawn to start the European part of WWII.
