I have 2 usb’s, one is 4gb and one is 1gb. I wanted an O/S small enough to run off the 1gb, I know I could easily use the 4gb to do it.

The biggest drawback of Fedora IMO, is lack of A/V codecs. You have to know to add the rpmfusion repositories to get all that stuff. From what I understand, Mint pretty much covers the A/V stuff pretty well doesn’t it?

I wonder if there is a Linux variant (I use Ubuntu) that would fit on a 1gb usb? Most small ones need at least 2 I think. They need twice as much room as they take up I think. I have a VM of "TinyCore" ,,,
du -h TinyCore32/
21M TinyCore32/
Yeah, that's 21 Meg and it's not just a command line distro. Can't remember what it uses as a window manager, but it's mighty tiny.

Mint pretty much covers the A/V stuff pretty well doesnt it?It copes well with the stupid A4 AMD audio drivers that have given me fits, and in my tests, did ok with video.
Of course, the touch screen... no-one seems to support that. Stupid HP TouchSmart....

Tom's is even smaller, but it is a specialty distro.

I can put an ISO on the smaller USB, how do I make it bootable?

Try this method--Disclaimer: I have never tried this, so I cannot vouch for it's usefulness.

Of course, the really funny part, is we think that anything under a hundred megs is small, though we used to get by with good old command.com, which was nano sized compared to the smallest modern distro. Of course, a modern linux kernel will do a hell of a lot more than DOS of any version would, but still...

No, the next LTS will be 17.. still 6 months off.... BUT, it IS very stable on my side ;^D
Total install and updates time was less than 8 minutes (and no reboot needed except for changing to nVidia drivers)..

Yes, VCL comes as a component (which already has pretty much all the codecs needed).. Only once.. 1 vid file, did I have to run Kaffiene to run a video..

I am still tempted to try to install BF2... was hooked on that game for years (botted the online players).. not even sure if we can do that anymore with the newer EA games, but worth it if we can bott them too ;) (I got so sick of the cheaters, I pretty much gave up on mmorpgs :p)

Yes, just learned last night that there is an option that you can manually put in through /etc/X11/xorg.conf called Coolbits (nVid only) that gives you 100% control of fan speed..... unlick MSI Afterburner (on WinBlows) though, it doesn’t change by heat... it is a % thing only :/

I'm not a big fan of KDE, and I'm used to having multiple desktops, but I'm happy with the stock drivers, except for touch-screen support.
I am still considering changing my Android (Nexus 7) to Mint KDE.. read that it DOES have touch support, kind of scred to try it though... was a pain enough to ROOT it without bricking.. :p
