[As Christians start fighting back] Obama calls for calm in Central African Republic

President Obama on Monday urged the citizens of the Central African Republic to “choose a different path” amid the latest round of sectarian violence gripping the nation.

“We know from the bitter experience of other countries what happens when societies descend into violence and retribution,” Obama said in an audio message taped as Air Force One refueled in Dakar, Senegal. “Today, my message to you is simple: it doesn’t have to be this way.”

Fighting between Christians and Muslims has lead to more than 400 deaths over the past two days, according to the Associated Press.

Obama noted that religious leaders from both sides have called “for calm and peace.”

“Every citizen of the Central African Republic can show the courage that’s needed right now,” Obama said. “You can show your love for your country by rejecting the violence that would tear it apart. You can choose peace.”

Earlier Monday, Defense Secretary Chick Hagel ordered the U.S. military to help transport international troops to the country in a bid to quell the violence.

This spring, an alliance of rebel forces seized power, installing president Michel Djotodia. The mostly Muslim fighters carried out a months-long rampage of looting, raping, and killing, according to the Associated Press.

Christian militias have now launched a counteroffensive against Djotodia, leading to more bloodshed. Last week, the United Nations Security Council voted to intervene and restore order within the country.

Obama called on Djotodia’s government to arrest those who are committing crimes.

“Individuals who are engaging in violence must be held accountable—in accordance with the law,” Obama said.

The president’s stop in Senegal came as he travelled to South Africa for the Nelson Mandela memorial service. He was joined aboard Air Force One by first lady Michelle Obama, former President George W. Bush, his wife Laura, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

From Audacity of Hope: ‘I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds
shift in an ugly direction.’

If the Christians seem to be getting the upper hand look for the kenyan to demand that the UN send troops to “stabilize the situation” and, should the UN decline, send a few heavily armed “peace advisers” to shut down the insurrectionists (Christians).

The Moslems will give up, perhaps for a generation or several generations, when the Islamic world suffers a defeat so massive as to deprive it of the means to wage and support war.Destruction of Iran followed by the colonization of Arabia would probably do the trick in this decade. Two decades ago the destruction, not the mere defeat, of Iraq might have done it. But the larger Islamic War will continue until all the World is Moslem or there are zero Moslems left. Excess wealth in the Moslem world feeds expansion and Jihad. Excess wealth in the MW is wealth over and above that required to keep a tiny ruling class in splendor and the rest of the population at bare subsistence.

Mohammedans are totally fatalistic. Allah will provide. That is why they do not work beyond sufficient to feed themselves and their families, that and the Kaliff or whoever the rulers are simply confiscate everything above that level.

If Islam suffers a massive military defeat that cuts off their source of wealth and destroys their immediate ability to wage war, the Moslem world will subside into apparent apathy and will go back to tending sheep and dates as their main occupation because Allah has demonstrated that Islam will not prevail in this generation.

Nothing less is sufficient. Anything less will prolong the Jihad and the shrinking of the infidel world.

Bush and Cruz should have chartered an airline AC to go separately from the kenyan.

No mention of the fact that the Muslims are getting arms and additional forces from Chad and Sudan. That’s how the Muslim 15% of the population were able to overthrow a government backed by both French and South African troops.

A lot of self proclaimed Christians voted for Obama, twice. And will, if given the opportunity, vote for him three times.

How any self professed Christian, who claims to believe in God, who claims to believe the Bible, could vote for a Democrat , whose Party's platform flies in the face of everything prohibited in the Bible. Who, at their National Convention, booed the mention of God's name at least three times on national television for the world to see and hear, is beyond my power of comprehension. But they did and still do.

“There is one indisputable fact.

The muslims won’t give up.

They may wait a week, or a month. Or a year, or a decade.

But they won’t give up. Their faith is more important than your life”

Muslims will do what they always do. Rape, pillage and murder. And when they start getting their ass kicked then call for a cease fire. Just like Obama’s asking for....

I really believe that people do not know what is going on over there to Christians. News of the Kardashians is more important for the media to present.

It’s been that way (with muzzies, commies, etc) for as long as I can remember.

Bush was honest.

had integrity.

believed in Christ.

but his actions(immigration and spending for starters) paved the way to the pickle we are in now ..along with a lot of other cultural forces

He did do good things too and compared to Gore or Clinton he was better

But GOP like Bush or Christie don't stop the plane crash, they simply prolong it..and contribute.

Bush's wife is a liberal, his momma is a liberal, his daddy was fairly liberal, his kids are very liberal...especially the NYC one..Bush II was actually the least liberal and his family steadily scolded him for it.

This is what you get with GOP establishment types

I have learned my lesson

We may learn we cannot win with a real conservative or that he cannot govern as one.

But we won't know in this era till we try.

Demographics have crushed us and Bush bears a lot of that.

We hashed that out here pretty bloody 7-10 years ago.

My post right now woulda been yanked and maybe me suspended as racist on immigration and just trouble for criticizing Bush.

I think everyone understands now what some were saying then.

I apprciate Bush for WOT and tax cuts and most judicial appointments...and his better than Obama of course but I'm tired of these type choices. We do have some good candidates now...Cruz for example..I could live with Rand Paul....Palin ain't gonna run folks I promise...been there done that dance

He’s not just better than Obama. He’s a world apart from Obama, the immigration and spending issues notwithstanding. Those were two failings, plus signing McCain-Feingold.

His social-conservative policies and his foreign policies make him one of the great presidents, however. His education plan was a good one, if you believe in a federal role.

There is just no comparison between the two, and it is becoming one of my pet peeves the way people trash him on this forum. People do America a great disservice when they equate the two men as being different only in degree.

The next election is another time and another chance, and freepers will all try to get the most conservative candidates possible.

Bush has always been a paragon of good manners. And now is certainly not the time to create more division. How horrible that would have looked as a tabloid headline: PLANE NONSENSE, or something like that, with a huge photo. . You don’t dis the president, even if you totally disapprove of his record and policies. It demeans the office and is just wrong.

the Bushes should have gone separately

Bush considers the Presidency to be bigger than one man.

He respects the office because it represents the US. To Bush this is about an official US delegation...it's not about Obama.
