I've got a whole medical arsenal to fix most any hurt part of a body including antibiotics and splints for arms and legs and ways to stop bleeding fast. I was going to throw out some old sheets and didn't because I can cut them up to make slings for arms or for outer bandages or to bind the rib cage in case of bruised ribs.
HOW TO HAVE RUNNING WATER WHEN YOU HAVE NO RUNNING WATER
I've been able to have running water if I have no running water since 1998. I have camp showers that have a tube running from the bag and there is a cut off switch. The newer ones have a temperature gauge on them and you put them in the sun and take them in when the temp is where you want it. It will become extremely hot water enough to burn you. I hang one at the kitchen sink, at each bathroom sink, and in the shower. You can have a hot shower and wash your hair anytime you want. If there is no sun that day, put off the shower and hair wash until the next time the sun is out or take a cold shower.
I have thought about taking that training, or at least the red cross cpr class etc. Don’t really have a lot of time. I probably need to get the books and read them several times before taking any training to make sure that I can remember enough to pass the tests.
In addition to the camp showers, for those cloudy cooler days, stock up on those bath wipe packs like they have in hospitals. They are nice when you don’t have anything else. You could even put them in a bit of hotwater and it’s even better.
I am well trained by Red Cross and was an instructor years ago. All these groups have age limits...
Good idea though about a big white shirt with a red+ on it front and back. I think I will add that to my back of the door “bug out” outfit.
My first aid kit has splints and lots of triangle bandages too...I have about a dozen sheets but still have not cut them up since I don’t know what shape might be needed.
Running water is an old jug with a hole punched in the lowest corner. Put a golf tee in the hole to stop the flow while you tie it wherever is handy, with a cord or bungee, since the handle is strong and built in. Don’t forget the small ends of soap in an old knee-hi stocking that hang from the handle and save, as well as dry out, the soap. It can serve as a washcloth or scrubbee too. Temperature is not something I have thought about. A black container might heat up quickly in full sun.
Know of anything that comes in a safe black container? Chemicals and oil is all I can think of.
Thanks for the ideas...I will work on a new location for the sheets and tape and scissors with them! ( Currently getting them out would expose some of my food supply!)
