At a Common Core forum held Tuesday at Ward Melville High School, Beth Dimino ripped New York State Education Commissioner John King, calling for his resignation and firing and describing the Common Core curriculum as a form of child abuse. Dimino is a 16-year science teacher in the Comsewogue School District, and serves as President of the Port Jefferson Station Teachers Association (PJSTA).
Her speech, a short two-minute blast on the curriculum and its supporters received several outbursts of applause, as well as a standing ovation when she walked away from the podium.
Here is the transcript of her speech:

Is there a cure for the common Core?
Don’t flame me, but, generally, anything that upsets the president of teachers’ union should be considered a good thing.
Except the ‘common core’ really is a bad thing.
CC is a federal takeover of education in America. It’s bad for parents, it’s bad for teachers, it’s bad for students and it’s bad for taxpayers. It should be opposed by all.
A pox on both parties in this dispute. Common Core has an agenda, but so do the unions. The unions are very much into social engineering, which is why they are the allies of the activist gays and hostile to the churches.
I think what we have currently is the federal takeover of education.
I'm not a New Yorker, can somebody provide a little clarification for me? Thanks.
Federal laws currently prohibit the U.S. Department of Education from prescribing any curriculum. CC seeks to overturn this and if successful, it will achieve full nationalized education.
I participate on blog posts that I see on here, but rarely comment on my own posts. I’d ask about your status, but I don’t necessarily care what you do. I tend to mind my business.
National control steps on local control including local union control of local schools.
The union conrrol is bad but Big Brother in Washington’s control is worse.
There are many things wrong with the Common Core. One is that it forces inclusion of politically correct indoctrination, and avoids teaching content (because certain groups don’t seem easily able to retain information).
On the other hand, nothing is wrong with giving children tests. A little competition os normal for children once they reach about fourth grade. They can learn to love watching their own accomplishments. Even those who are not at the top of the class, nevertheless enjoy doing better than before. Incidentally, slow learners are often very good at retaining what they have learned: there is room for many types of learners. What we must insist on, though, is that all be given the chance to advance.
Some of the teachers’ unions hate testing, not because their little charges will be frightened, but because the idea of being tested frightens them.
Common Core destroying education and Obamacare destroying health, add to that a foreign policy made up by a Kenyan muslim and his Traitor Secretary of State, and you get Obama’s legacy.
Common Core is indoctrination. My niece said her son had some worksheet listing great Americans. Cass Sunstein was one of them.
It is evil.
Here is your blog pimp, stealing FR bandwidth. His every thread posted is to his blog and he never comments in return.
