Earlier in the day, Boehner reiterated what hes said before on immigration reform: I'll make clear we have no intention ever of going to conference on the Senate bill."
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) chided Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) for his refusal to negotiate with the Senate on immigration reform.
I'm stunned, Reid said in an interview Wednesday with Fusion, a joint venture by ABC News and Univision. How could anybody in good conscience tell one group he's trying to do immigration reform, and a few minutes later, say 'I'm not going to do anything about a conference?' "
Earlier in the day, Boehner reiterated what hes said before on immigration reform: I'll make clear we have no intention ever of going to conference on the Senate bill."
His comments confirmed the House will not take up the issue this year, which President Obama and Democrats have pressed for. Last week, House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) also ruled it out for 2013, arguing there are too few legislative days remaining in this session.
"This is about trying to do this in a way that the American people and our members can absorb," Boehner said, arguing the immigration system is too complex to address quickly.
In the morning, a group of teenagers approached Boehner at a Capitol Hill diner and questioned why the Speaker wouldnt act on immigration. Their family members, they said, have previously faced deportation.
Im trying to find a way to get this thing done. Its, as you know, not easy. Its not going to be an easy path forward, but Ive made it clear since the day after the election that its time to get this done, Boehner said. A video of the exchange was recorded.
Reid accused Boehner of sending mixed signals, Fusion reports.
"I mean, this House of Representatives might just as well not exist, he said. They don't do anything.
The Senate passed the Gang of Eight legislation in June, but Boehner has since rejected that measures reforms.
Reid said hes open to negotiating with Boehner if the House passes piece-meal legislation addressing immigration-related issues individually.
"I don't like it, he said. But if they pass something, we can at least go to conference.
We already passed bills funding a fence and more border security.
Lets start there.
Complete one bill before even thinking about another.
Of course, Boner will cave. It probably doesn’t go far enough to let illegals in from the middle east or some such non-sense.
I trust him as much as I trust Reid.
Or as George Hallas would say “I trust him as far as I can throw a man-hole cover”
Oh please. This is about rewarding criminals, providing slave labor to business, and buying Hispanic votes. The GOP has been trying to cram this through since 2001.
GOPe are feeling primary heat. The Chamber of Commerce, Main Street Advocacy, Karl Rove, George Soros money not really there
I saw a poll that shows the support is not there from we the people. Politicians and Hispanic groups have been saying “most Americans want immigration reform to pass” but when it comes down to it the numbers they want are not there. Heck I want immigration reform, I want the border secured, laws enforced, and illegals deported- of course that is not what the dims and RINOs consider immigration reform.

Bump!
Reid’s Boehner is stuned. Imagine that.
Once again the GOP e is acting like a “men’s divorce lawyer”, and instead ofbluntly framing an opinion on the matter simply throw an easy ball to Reid for retaliation.
So Hairbrain thinks the House doesn’t do anything?
How’s Sequester going hairball?
BTW Hairball, if you recall the H.O.R. sent over a funding bill that would have Killed NeroCare funding....remember. I know 14 Senators that want a do over.
This would never happen but I’d love it if the Republicans passed a bill in the House granting blanket political asylum to all the Afrikaners in South Africa based on their danger of imminent genocide, and subsidizing their immigration into the US, esp. in the border states. How fun would it be to see those pc heads explode?
If we don’t take them, I bet Putin will.
I’ll bet Boehner’s shocked at how good it feels to tell Reid to stick it. Might even get hooked on that lovin’ feeling.
Get a clue Harry. The PEOPLE don’t want it
It’s not “immigration reform” you lying POS Pols! You’re Orwellian BS is making illegals “legal”.
Shove it!
I wonder if Harry is stunned when he looks in the mirror.
Almost every country in Europe, Asia and America wants less total immigration. The only countries that want massive immigration are corrupt African countries who want some wealthy westerners to bail them out.
Most polls will say people in many countries want less immigration.
The only push poll might say they support amnesty if there is virtually no more illegal aliens entering. Which won’t happen regardless of the border because 40% of them overstay.
What surprised me is Steve King and Jeff Sessions. Sessions said the shutdown wasn’t the best of ideas. Steve King said it gave them 2 more weeks of the rule of law not being repealed by congress.
It is funny how McCain called Gohmert an idiot. Gohmert and King have been delaying his amnesty votes all year.
They have their own countries.
Anything Boehner sends to the Senate, be it piece-meal legislation or a full package, will give Reid a chance to dump it for the previously passed Senate version if they go to conference.
That was their earlier ‘understanding’ — that the Senate would pass a bill and Boehner would get something passed so they could get most of the Senate bill done by conference.
Piece Meal means you grant amnesty to the Dreamers.
Then you grant amnesty to the parents and siblings.
Then you grant amnesty to any illegal who has ever stepped foot on a farm.
Then to any illegal who has stepped foot on a factory floor.
That’s why Rubio is still on the bandwagon and Rand Paul likes this amnesty lite idea.
The most positive part is the Gowdy SAFE Act. Which is the Arizona style immigration law nationwide. Once Goodlatte-Gowdy tries to pass that he is going to get accused of being racist. The hispanic lobby will admit they dont want to identify all levels of illegal alien criminals in a database.
The shutdown was good for the priorities of voters. Immigration is not an important issue for the voters. Anything that Reid and Obama allow to pass is not important. It also flipped some fence sitters against amnesty. The abusive phone calls they got hurt their feelings. They can’t handle it anymore.
Illegal immigration is the car that feckless politicians figuratively pushed into the middle of the busy intersection. If you look closely at the numbers, it is illegal immigration that tops the list of things that are destroying the US by a wide margin.
Look at this healthcare debacle: The Kaiser Family Foundation says there are 48.5 million uninsured in the US. 30 million will still not have health insurance in 2014 as they are mostly illegal immigrants.
California, which boasts a *Latino/Hispanic majority* has over 7.5 million uninsured. Close to 4 million of the uninsured are illegal immigrants. It is now up to the White, Asian, African American and “Other” minorities to pick up the tab.
