Slide-Fire's 'Bump Stock' Rifle Uses Recoil to In-Effect Fire Full Auto

Mimicking the 'bump fire' technique that can be utilized to fire a semi-auto rifle nonstop (from the hip), a new $6000 rifle from Slide-Fire keeps the stock (and your trigger finger) steady while the rest of the gun moves with the recoil, pulling the trigger against your stationary finger and producing the desired hail of gunfire... 

The weapon utilizes loopholes in federal firearms law, whereas the stock of such a gun is simply not regulated as to it's movement/or lack of, nor how this is now being utilized to produce a full-auto effect... just the traditional mechanical elements of the weapon were considered by legislators, so typical American ingenuity made and end-run around them yet again...

I had someone try to sell me once. I declined. It seems like it would be good for having fun at the range but, tactically, I think it has limited usefulness. I’m not saying it has no value at all mind you, just limited usefulness. I have never used one though so I could be wrong.

The stocks are available around here for about $350. I'd buy one, but none of the shops has a LH model in stock. So far, I've resisted the temptation to ask them to order one.
I'm getting weaker by the day...

Double barrel shotguns with early versions of single triggers had the issue of ‘doubling’, i.e. the second barrel would fire a split second after the first. It was found that recoil essentially bounced the gun off the shoulder and pushed the trigger back into the shooter’s finger. It happened so fast the shooter wasn’t aware that his finger had basically pulled the trigger twice.

After the makers figured out why it was happening they came up with various techniques to fix the problem including triggers that required three pulls to fire the second barrel (the second pull being the inadvertent one) or inertia devices that used recoil to set the second barrel to fire.

Tactically, it would be of very limited use, since I doubt you could get accurate fire out of it. And I would not want that stock at all if there wasn't a knob or switch to lock it in place for accurate semi-auto fire.

The sound of full-auto fire, or better yet, the sight of a line of bullets stitching across their windshield, WOULD likely give a group of thugs pause, though...

yup. I used to enjoy spraying bullets into a back stop. Now I enjoy making each one of them as accurate and consistent as possible.

It just seems like a tool designed to waste ammo at the range. I doubt it would work from a prone position which means you would have to stand up to lay down suppression fire. That severely limits it's usefulness. At this point, I think tools designed to squeeze the maximum amount of accuracy out of each round make more sense than tools designed to waste as much ammo as possible. Ammo is gold and an accuracy advantage equals standoff capability which is a fine advantage to have provided you choose your battles wisely.

I have fired several select fire weapons and agree with you.

If you’re not fighting an advancing army, in a jungle, at night....not much tactical value.

I’m fine with a semi-auto AR and EOTech Optics, to place my shots and preserve my ammo.

Yeah, looks like something for fun at the range, until you start buying ammo for it...but likely limited use in any plausible self defense role. Plus, 6000? For that I could buy two good ARs and trick them out with all the latest optics, stocks, grips, slings, maybe a laser and a light. You know, go overboard like so many AR owners do. ;-)

Having tried one of these out (on someone else’s rifle), I can confirm that they are indeed fun, and further that they are quite inaccurate as well. To use it in “full auto” (they can be locked down for semi-auto fire), you have to lock your finger into the trigger guard, then pull forward on the hand guard with your off hand. That alone would kill accuracy, and adding in the tendency for the weapon to climb in full auto...
Definitely a lot of fun, though- my wife had a blast using it, in well controlled bursts. I was proud of her. :)

Yes, it would work fine in FA in a firefight—it has its limitations though. Whether the user can operate the butt stock like it needs to during a firefight is another matter. Just be ready to be the next top priority target once you have to change the mag. Any opponent would be a fool to stick his head up with that amount of ammo incoming.
