Harry Reid: Furlough back pay is ‘paid vacation’ By: Burgess Everett October 5, 2013 12:44 PM EDT

By passing a bill providing federal workers back pay while the government is closed, House Republicans are giving them a “paid vacation,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Saturday afternoon.

Just a few minutes after the House passed its retroactive pay legislation for federal workers, Reid said the legislation is “uncontroversial” but said it is “cruel” to tell those employees they will get paid when the government reopens while at the same time refusing to open government.

How about if we just exclude that “unfair” back for employees at Nellis or any other base in Nevada. Harry?

What do they think of your Uriah Heep act?

Last week their back pay was more important to Harry Reid than children at NIH in cancer programs

Harry Reid: Furlough back pay is ‘paid vacation’ By: Burgess Everett October 5, 2013 12:44 PM EDT

Translation: if we give them back pay they won’t get mad at and blame the Republicans for the furlough and shutting down the government which is preventing us from moving forward with implementing Obamacare against the will of the people.

Most DOD employees are republicans. It is the largest group of government workers that is repub majority.

Now that most of these DOD workers are back on the job, Boehner et al. will probably be less worried about the shutdown. It strengthens their position.

We should give most of them their back pay along with a termination notice.

When you’re as far in debt as we are as a county, there’s no excuse for having “nonessential” employees on the payroll, whether they’re competent or not.

RE :”Harry Reid: Furlough back pay is ‘paid vacation’

Same crap pulled in 1995 and 1996 that Rush and Levin didn't tell their listeners about all these past years when preaching the glories of that past shutdown.
Then they get on FNC with those ‘tears’ about the out of control deficit and how they cant afford our social security.

Its that VA governors race I bet. Lots of government jobs in VA and now they are worried that Terry McAuliffe will get many of them to vote for him in November, so this freebee is to offset that.

Shutdown Would Favor Terry McAuliffe in Virginia Gubernatorial Race Key demographic will be disproportionately hit by shutdown (By Rebekah Metzler September 30, 2013)

“Most DOD employees are republicans.”

Other than the combat arms active duty personnel I doubt that the majority of the DOD are Republicans now. Maybe in the past years, but not under this current administration.

Btw. Where exactly can you point me to that has those statistics?

MY RANT: The House passed four, that is FOUR budgets and sent to the Senate. Reid rejected each budget. . .won’t even send to committee for review, let alone allow a vote.

The House is willing to negotiate a settlement but Reid and Obama have both said they will not negotiate. That is insane and the actions of a petulant spoiled child.

How can you get anything done without negotiating? You can’t. This is a deliberate action on the part of the democrats to cast the republicans as ogres. . .and the media and low information voter buys this.

The meme is; “it’s the republican’s fault for not giving the Senate and White House 100% of what they want.”

I have never said this about any partisan politician before but I do now, Reid, Pelosi and Obama are simply evil. Closing open-air wide-open memorials. . .closing the WWII open-air memorial by putting up barricades to stop 80-90yr old veterans from walking/wheelchairing up to their memorial during their annual visit (memorial paid for through private fundraising), closing the Wash DC Mall for key-rist sakes, a wide open expanse of land with nothing on it. . .attempting to close a STATE road to stop people from driving past Mount Rushmore so people can’t see the memorial. . .etc. . .these are NOT the actions of a mature and reasonable adult. . .Like I said, democrats. . .a petulant spoiled child.

Even Ray Charles can see this is all by design to inflict as much inconvenience and pain on the people, all with the sole aim of making people angry in the hopes of making them angry at the republicans. . .when the republicans are the ones submitting budgets and practically begging to negotiate.

ObamaCare is “the law of the land”. . .like that is supposed to stop debate and end all discussion to repeal or amend. Jim Crow segregation laws were also “the law of the land” too, but that didn’t mean efforts to repeal or amend them were to be halted because the Supreme Court held them constitutional.

Washington DC area housing market recovery moves to the suburbs By Lisa A. Sturtevant

"The recovery of the Washington area housing market has been well documented — sales are up, prices are rising and inventories are low. Home prices in the Washington region have been up 29 out of the last 33 months. But when it comes to the real estate market, location matters — even in our robust market. Close-in neighborhoods led the recovery but buyers are increasingly heading to the outer suburbs." Via: Washington Post

Gee, ya think that this has anything to do with the huge growth in the number of federal employees under this Administration?

2013 Maryland Housing Market

Expect to hear more sounds of new construction in Maryland in coming months.

A recent report by Metrostudy, a national housing data and consulting firm, indicates there will likely be increases in new house construction in the near future.

Much of the reason for that is rebounding employment. “The Baltimore MSA (metropolitan statistical area) saw some improvement to job growth, adding 6,800 jobs over the same time period,” said Melissa Jonas, regional director of Metrostudy’s Mid-Atlantic division. The unemployment rates in both the DC area and Baltimore continue to be below the national average of 8.1 percent, coming in at 5.5 percent and 7.7 percent, respectively. Baltimore has edged nearer to the national average in recent months”
