Mob violence.
Domestic terrorism.
Call it what you will, but the uncut footage of the biker gang that repeatedly surrounded and then attacked New York City Internet executive Alexian Lien and his family on the citys highways and surface streets is an example of the sort of chilling violence that seems to be endemic to a growing violent subculture within our society.
This amoral mob mentality glorifies in spitting in the face of civility. They act as if Grand Theft Auto isnt just an ultra-violent video game, but is instead a lifestyle to be emulated.
(snip)
Days after the attack, were still unclear as to why the bikers originally singled out Liens family for attack.
Perhaps they took offense at his success, as displayed in the form of an expensive SUV. Perhaps they did not like his race, being of Asian descent. Perhaps they simply saw terror and weakness in his eyes as they swarmed through traffic, and decided to torment him, as a vicious child pulls the wings from a fly.
What we do know is that the mobs lawlessness was rampant that day, and that it is far from unusual. There are at least dozens and perhaps hundreds of videos posted to Internet video sites that show these so-called pop-up gangs in action, plowing down city streets and sidewalks, putting everyone in their way at risk.
In fact, the NY Post is reporting that the New York Police Department is so aware of these pop-up gangs that they even have a strategy to deal with them.
Their strategy?
Pretend like they dont exist:

The next few minutes of video are terrifying as what appears to be hundreds of outlaw bikers. I say that because I see hundreds of overt and unsafe violations of the traffic laws. The video show the bikers running multiple red lights and stop signs in their pursuit of the SUV driver and his family.
Finally, the driver is boxed in by traffic. A rider runs up to the SUV and from what happened, it appears he broke in the drivers side window and the bikers manage to drag out the driver and beat him near to death.
No police in the entire video that I could see.
I don’t care for the use of the term “Biker” in regard to this flash mob on motorcycles.
Since when are punks on crotch rockets considered ‘bikers’?
Unfortunately, the guys wife and child were in the car with him. If he had pulled a firearm, that would have escalated the situation and likely would have resulted in his family being injured.
What are the chance that one of the bikers had a firearm?
If I were by myself, I would have risked it. With my family, a different story.
However if he had defended himself with a firearm you can rest assured that the NYC cops would have been all over him, and he would have been prosecuted, as they say, to the fullest extent of the law.
I wish I knew what was going on inside the car. I can only imagine they called 911. I would expect the family to cruise on the freeway until escorted by LEO or until they run out of gas.
Did I not read that no charges have been filed?
According to one report I’ve seen, they did call 911.
And never stop like Reginald Denny.
Y’all are both right. They’re not bikers.
I thought is was fairly well-known that the incident started when one of the bikers stopped short and got bumped by the SUV. The tactic of the biker mobs is to act as a sort of rolling roadblock, clearing a stretch of roadway ahead of traffic so that they can perform and record stunts on public streets.
One man with an AK47 would stop this mob in their tracks.
When Police start letting crap like this go on with no response, it only gets worse.
Crotch Rockets are hard to catch that’s for sure, and these criminals know it. They think they are having fun until one of them gets hurt.
One day these idiots will wonder why Crotch Rockets are outlawed, and why they are down to riding Vespa’s.
I also read that charges were dropped.
Would you prefer that I use “motorcycle rider”? It is much longer than the shortcut of “biker”.
They called 911, but it might have been lost in the other 200 calls to 911 about the same gang.
You can see it in the youtube video. Biker stops short and the laws of physics ensue.

The commenters to the article state that 911 was called multiple times by the people in the SUV.
I have not had any reports of any of the motorcycle riders calling 911.
How about “squids”? If it weren’t for the fact that they don’t want to be recognized, I’d bet you most of them wouldn’t wear helmets.

It seems that may have been the start, with the bikers then surrounding the SUV. Which may well qualify as kidnapping, under the law. It has been reported that the mob tried to force entry to the SUV, and/or slashed a tire or tires. If either those things happened, it seems a clear and present danger, and using the SUV to get away from a mob that is intending harm is clearly justified, IMHO.
I agree, the SUV driver did the smart and prudent thing. Same thing I would have done, frankly.
