In a discussion on freerepublic.com about the Navy Yard active shooter situation, MacMattico posted this response about how the children in his daughter's school responded to an active shooter exercise:
First week of school, my daughter's entire school was put on lockdown. They couldn't leave their classes and doors (including classroom doors) were locked. Some idiot had called in a threat is all we have been told.
The boys started speaking up first, telling the teacher if we hear gun shots we're not sitting here and the teacher repeated they were suppose to stay seated until the lockdown was lifted.
Fortunately, nothing happened but the class had already made plans to use the fire escape window to get out if a gunman approached, and how to quickly move a large piece of furniture in front of the door to afford more escape time. The fastest kid in the class volunteered to be the first out the fire escape to run as fast as he could to see if it was safe down there. The girls were in on the plan, to, but chivalry is not dead as the boys said they would help the girls get out first.
The teacher said even if there's gun fire, the plan is to stay seated. One kid told her then you can stay seated next to the door and keep look out while we get out.Notice that the students were not worried about breaking regulations. They were worried about survival. They created a plan based on developing circumstances, not one that had to work in all situations. They were not disrespectful, they simply refused to allow the teacher to dictate to them that they must die in place.
You are require by law to be here but we refuse to make any reasonable attempt to protect you.
I see this attitude more and more:
It would be sensible to do it this way ... but the rules say ...
We'll lose money if we do that ... but the rules say we have to.
Doing this doesn't help anybody in any way ... but we have to follow the rules.
Eff the freakin' rules. I want my freedom back.
(applauding)
You remember it. Pretty soon nobody will.
Remember there was no door between the terrorists and the pilots on 9-11. A lobbyist called "no door"....too expensive....wife of a Senator!!
Advertise certain places as gun-free zones and instruct people to “shelter in place” if there’s an incident. It’s an ideal situation for some piece of garbage to rack up a body count.
If I don’t have gun then adios muchachos is numero uno on my list.
In Virginia Tech most of the kids crouched under their desks as he went kid to kid shooting them. Not putting up any form of resistance. They even waited while he reloaded.
That is kind of passive people the left wants.
Those students sound smarter than the teacher.
Just one more reason to homeschool!
What age group are these kids? They seem smarter than their teacher.
I don’t know what grade level these students are in is but from what I can see from the their response to the teacher’s was a much more responsible way.
If they show that much testicular fortitude in dealing with such a situation I say take them to a range, teach them to shoot, and train them on close quarter combat firearms tactics.
If and when the fun begins (either real or a drill) the students can gun up and go after the murderous idiot in the school.

That was college, right? They had already been brainwashed. They even forgot they were adults I guess.
LOL Bright bunch of kids there! Teacher seems so brainwashed, though, that if the shooter knocked she'd probably let him in.
The kids have more brains than the lawyers who write these plans while safely surrounded by armed guards and the so-called educators who enforce them.
The impulse to survive is hard-wired into our nature. It can’t be totally, indefinitely suppressed. That’s why no totalitarian system can ever hope to endure forever. We really are born to be free.
Small Wisdom 101:
Dick and Jane see a man with a gun.
Dick says to Jane: “Run! Jane, Run!!”
Even chickens have enough sense to run and try to dodge bullets than sit there like a sitting duck.
Ever see a chicken run?
It zigzags.
I used to raise chickens.
If totalitarianism was the real problem, we'd have licked it long ago.
The real problem is that there are people who actually want to destroy humanity altogether, and who use totalitarianism as their cover.
