President Obama - I Will Not Negotiate The Debt Ceiling
Political Realities ^ | 09/19/13 | LD Jackson

Posted on 09/19/2013 4:51:21 AM PDT by LD Jackson

This will come as no surprise to anyone who has paid attention to President Obama in the last four plus years. He has drawn a line in the sand and told the Republicans he will not negotiate over increasing the debt ceiling when it comes up later this year. If I recall correctly, he took his ball and went home the last time a deal was reached on the debt ceiling. He said then he would refuse to negotiate an increase in the debt ceiling in the future. I suppose he thinks he can get everything he wants, something he has accused the Republicans of wanting, just because he won the election. Those are his words, not mine.

Yahoo News - While I will negotiate over many things, I will not have another debate with this Congress over whether or not they should pay the bills that they’ve already racked up through the laws that they passed.
President Obama has continued the same narrative since last year's fight over the debt ceiling. He didn't like how that turned out, especially since the Republicans forced his hand and let the sequester, his sequester, I might add, go into effect. The President and the media have worked double time to make sure that little fact from becoming well-known, but it is the truth, nonetheless. President Obama is the man who came up with the idea of the sequester, not John Boehner or anyone else in the Republican Party. Plain and simple, the blame for anything bad coming from the sequester rests on Obama's shoulders. And he is now accusing the Republicans of extortion.
The Note - With a possible government shutdown looming, President Obama today accused House Republicans of extortion, saying a “faction” of lawmakers threatens to force the United States into default unless he agrees to delay or defund his signature health care law.

“You have never seen in the history of the United States the debt ceiling or the threat of not raising the debt ceiling being used to extort a president … and trying to force issues that have nothing to do with the budget and have nothing to do with the debt,” Obama said in speech to the Business Roundtable, a nonpartisan association of top American CEOs.

“That a budget is contingent on us eliminating a program that was voted on, passed by both chambers of Congress, ruled constitutional by the Supreme Court, is two weeks from being fully implemented and that helps 30 million people finally get health care coverage; we’ve never seen that become the issue around a budget battle,” he said of the Affordable Care Act.

Obama BlameA couple of things should be noted from the President's remarks. First and foremost, he seems to think the debt ceiling is a budget. Since when have we even had a budget for how many years? Too many to count, but this fact seems to have escaped President Obama. Second, he keeps touting Obamacare as the best thing since sliced bread, but the reality is much different. Costs are going up, not down. Coverage is going down, not up. The law has been, and continues to be, poorly implemented. Some of its principle authors have called it a train wreck. But, as with so many mammoth government programs, the liberals in Washington insist they continue down the same pathway and expect to get different results.

Obama says his health care reform bill was passed by both chambers of Congress, but he fails to mention it failed to get a single Republican vote. Yes, the Supreme Court ruled it was constitutional, but only after redefining the mandate as a tax. And he refuses to acknowledge that the majority of the American people do not want the federal government to have its grubby little fingers in the middle of their health care. We do not want the IRS gathering more and more information that will be used against us, to force us to follow the path set out by the federal government. That Obamacare is an invasion of the federal government into every part of our lives is a fact that is being ignored by the liberals and many so-called conservatives in Washington. Note to Congress. We do not want Obamacare shoved any further down our throats. Enough is enough.

The President says he will refuse to negotiate with the Republicans over raising the debt ceiling. I say he really doesn't have a choice. The last time I checked, he is President Obama, not Dictator Obama. That may not set well with his narcissistic personality, but it is the reality with which he is faced. If we can find enough conservatives in Congress to stand their ground and force his hand, he will have no choice but to negotiate. Here is an exchange between Jay Carney and ABC's Jon Karl, who has been a thorn in the flesh for the Obama administration. It comes from Doug Ross.

ABC's Jon Karl: The president's position is: he will not negotiate over the debt ceiling --

Jay Carney: Correct.

ABC's Jon Karl: How is that tenable? The White House is willing to risk default?

Jay Carney: The White House is not -- here's the thing -- Jon --

ABC's Jon Karl: You're saying you won't even negotiate with Republicans on this issue! How is that tenable?

Even Jay Carney can't spin this into something good for the President. No matter how many lies he tells to cover up for his boss, the facts remain. President Obama really has no choice but to negotiate with the Republicans over the debt ceiling. If he refuses and the government shuts down as a result, the blame will lie at Obama's feet. The people who are supposedly representing us in Congress just have one thing they need to do. They must stand their ground.

The Republicans should spend the coming days rushing toward cameras saying:

"We want to negotiate! We don't want a shut down!
We want to negotiate! We don't want a shut down!
We want to negotiate! We don't want a shut down!"

But I suppose, even if they do that, the media will still report that the inevitable shutdown is the fault of Republican stubbornness.

Sure it is not the first time that a veteran community organizer has gone to a bank and told them in no uncertain terms that they will give him more credit. Very few people have ever told Obama “no” in anything in his life. He simply does not know how to negotiate. That is why he is so ineffective and astonished by Putin.

You NEVER negotiate with Americans, you dictate.

You ONLY negotiate with America’s enemies....because you’re largely on their side.

DO ANOTHER SEQUESTER!!!!!!!!!!!

And make them try to say “look how horrible the last one was!” (No one noticed except that they cancelled white house tours)

If they try to say the last sequester was so bad and its the evil republicans fault, and the republicans to not laugh in their face, they are even stupider than i think they are.

I can’t believe they let the democraps get away with saying how much fallout there was against republicans for the last government shut down- I dont quite remember it that way. All that happened was that government employees got a free two day vacation WITH PAY

President Obama - I Will Not Negotiate The Debt Ceiling

Article I, §8: "The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts...[and] To borrow Money on the credit of the United States..."

Incurring debt using the credit of the United States is a reserved power of Congress. It has nothing whatever to do with Obama.

Whether he "will negotiate" or "will not negotiate" is meaningless - there's nothing for him to negotiate about.

Obviously, Congress is going to repudiate this massive sovereign debt at some point - they might as well get on with it.

The ceiling will be raised. That's the way it is.

The real problem is reducing the debt by getting rid of programs...instead of adding more AND getting things moving like fracking, the pipeline .

Stop the owl crap and the frog crap and open up some areas to lumbering and drilling and mining. W need progress. It's the only thing that works as the population grows.

Nothing will ever change until people start to say that this is NOT "the way it is".
