GunsNFreedom.com is reporting an astonishing statement made by Chicago police superintendent Garry McCarthy.
McCarthy is angry that Illinois has joined the other 49 states in the union that have authorized some level of concealed carry. In an recorded interview McCarthy issues a not so thinly-veiled threat that under his leadership, Chicago Police will shoot concealed carriers:
“You put more guns on the street expect more shootings,” McCarthy said. “I don’t care if they’re licensed legal firearms, people who are not highly trained… putting guns in their hands is a recipe for disaster. So I’ll train our officers that there is a concealed carry law, but when somebody turns with a firearm in their hand the officer does not have an obligation to wait to get shot to return fire and we’re going to have tragedies as a result of that. I’m telling you right up front.”
McCarthy doesn’t just seem to think it may happen; he almost seems to look look forward to it with some sort of vindictive wrath. He asserts that only his police are responsible enough to carry handguns, an assertion that flies in the face of the fact that at least one study shows that police officers are five times more likely to shoot the wrong person than concealed carriers.
A key fact that McCarthy glosses over in claiming that police are so much better trained than the average concealed carrier, is that concealed carriers are not training to be police officers.
Concealed carriers do not learn radio procedures and codes, arrest procedures, the various laws and ordinances, or various other aspects of police work that take up most of the time McCarthy uses to assert his officers are somehow superior when it comes to firearms use.
The sad, simple fact of the matter is that CPD officers rarely train with their firearms. Most fire their weapons only during during the mandatory annual qualification, which lasts just one hour. There are Girl Scout troops with more frequent range time than the Chicago PD.
In most cities, a police superintendent threatening his city’s most law-abiding citizens with bloodshed would result in a groundswell of calls for his ouster or resignation. That outcome is unlikely in Chicago. Citizens are too busy going to funerals of the more than 250 citizens murdered so far this year under McCarthy’s watch in his “gun free” city.

Conversely, if a concealed carrier sees a cop with a gun in his hand the concealed carrier had better shoot first to save his life. Way to go, jackass! He just gave every criminal that does shoot first a nice defense in court: “Well, judge, I had to shoot first because Chicago police superintendent Garry McCarthy said cops will fire on me regardless.”
I left (Arlington Heights, NW Suburbs) in ‘67, and never went back.
And to think there are lots of people around here who think cops are going to be on their side when the orders come down for door to door searches or gun confiscations. They can’t seem to get their hands around the fact that the cops have already pocked a side, and it’s not theirs.
Brandishing usually gets the job done, but cops never brandish.

We almost had that here in Texas. Gov. Goodhair (Perry) tried to sell off tollroads to a mexican firm and various cronies.
I've left a range before after a bunch of cops showed up. They had no concept whatsoever of safe gun handling. I didn't feel it was safe to be on the range with them.

FURTHER TO “Chicago top cop warns that his officers will shoot concealed carriers”
My sister — who is married to a retired cop — wrote this to me re. the comment by the Chicago Police Chief that his officers will shoot citizens who carry concealed.
“Here’s a sentence that I pulled out of one of the quotes. ‘So I’ll train our officers that there is a concealed carry law, but when somebody turns with a firearm in their hand, the officer does not have an obligation to wait to get the shot to return fire’.
I take that to mean that the firearm is being pointed AT the officer and if I had my gun out for some reason, and I was approached by a cop, I would merely hang it down at my side with the barrel pointed at the sidewalk, NOT point it at the cop. I wonder IF that’s the point the Sheriff left out of his quote?”
MY RESPONSE:
I had the same thought. Any concealed carry permit holder stupid enough to STILL have his weapon in his hand at the scene when the uniforms arrive is not smart enough to carry a gun. He should have it BACK in the holster until the cops ask him to relinquish it for the inevitable ballistics test part of any investigation of the incident.
A more nettlesome problem would be if the officers were plain clothes types who come upon the scene and fail to PROPERLY and PROMPTLY identify themselves to the CCW citizen who MIGHT misidentify them as additional perpetrators. THAT could be very dangerous or deadly for the citizen — especially in light of this IDIOT CHIEF’S MEMO TO HIS OFFICERS. It’s more than likely that some good Chicago citizens will die needlessly at the hands of some of the overzealous cops that inhabit ALL police departments (aka “cowboys”) and the cowboys will receive medals for taking another CCW permit holder off the street.
There’s probably one more element in play here: Policing is a JOB. When the crime rate drops, so does the need for cops. Research proves that as CCW permit holder numbers grow (i.e., more ARMED CITIZENS!), the criminals go where they will be less likely to encounter an armed victim and the crime/murder rate plummets. Interviews of prison inmates has disclosed that armed victims worry them vastly more than the cops.
The high murder/crime rate in Chicago — where legal carry by decent citizens is discouraged or illegal — is a form of JOB SECURITY for the cops there. Somebody has to show up after the gun smoke has cleared to draw the chalk outline of the victim’s body, take some photos and perhaps help the ME’s guy load the corpse.
That’d be the cops!

Please note that this idiot, CPD Supt Garry McCarthy McCompStat, McNitwit, McStreetlights, McDrunk, McJersey, is NOT 'The Police', and he does NOT speak for CPD Coppers -- They hate his guts. The drunken maggot is nothing but a left-wing, gun-grabbing, Politician from New York City, via Newark NJ & NYPD, who wears the uniform of the CPD(1).
There's horror stories of what McJackass did while in the NYPD. Involving things like him drunk & driving, nights, shooting his weapon at streetlights; ergo: 'McStreetlights', and fighting with NYPD Cops while drunk (his wife is another drunken 'winner'). If McNiwit didn't leave the NYPD when he did he would have been booted out on his ass. He wound up at the Newark PD through Dem political connections (Cory Booker).
As such do not believe any of this sh.it. When you get that CCW permit and if stopped for a Traffic, just, act like the normal person you, per the training, and common fricken sense -- no reaching for your waistband, duh. Chicago Cops are not going to shoot you dead for no reason. As a group Chicago Coppers are more conservative & Pro-2A than compared to the general population. Natch there's a few 'hair gel cop'(2) exceptions.
