The intelligence linking Syrian President Bashar Assad or his inner circle to an alleged chemical weapons attack is no "slam dunk," with questions remaining about who actually controls some of Syria's chemical weapons stores and doubts about whether Assad himself ordered the strike, U.S. intelligence officials say.President Barack Obama declared unequivocally Wednesday that the Syrian government was responsible, while laying the groundwork for an expected U.S. military strike.
"We have concluded that the Syrian government in fact carried these out," Obama said in an interview with "NewsHour" on PBS. "And if that's so, then there need to be international consequences."
However, multiple U.S. officials used the phrase "not a slam dunk" to describe the intelligence picture.
...U.S. satellites have captured images of Syrian troops moving trucks into weapons storage areas and removing materials, but U.S. analysts have not been able to track what was moved or, in some cases, where it was relocated. They are also not certain that when they saw what looked like Assad's forces moving chemical supplies, those forces were able to remove everything before rebels took over an area where weapons had been stored.
In addition, an intercept of Syrian military officials discussing the strike was among low-level staff, with no direct evidence tying the attack back to an Assad insider or even a senior Syrian commander, the officials said.
...Some have even talked about the possibility that rebels could have carried out the attack in a callous and calculated attempt to draw the West into the war. That suspicion was not included in the official intelligence report
But still, even with all the uncertainty, we get the same liberals who cried and wailed over Iraq, a country that WAS a clear and present danger to the US, a country that was proven to have used WMD's against his own people, telling us "it's all different" now:

Looks like Barry is already peeing in his pants about having to take action.
Once again, Ted Cruz has it right. Where is the Senate? Where is the House? Why have they not been called back into emergency session to consider the President’s lurch toward war on information that at best is negligent and at worst is intentionally deceptive and part of a false flag operation?
Well, if Obama does do it, it would be racist to oppose it.
And if he doesn’t do it, it would be racist to expect him to have done it.
These “leaks” are designed to give Obama a path to back off. The Brits and the French no longer seem interested in direct military action. Obama may lose a bit of face, Kerry will stew, but it is far better for everyone if Obama does not initiate his catastrophic act of war. Hopefully he will forget all about it and take a long Labor day golf weekend.
Well one thing for sure, he will not lose face with world leaders.
They all know that he can not be believed with anything he does or says.
Why would we want to get involved anyway as it will accomplish nothing except for mac daddy to save face for his motor mouth statements that he never wanted to back up anyway.

CIA, like Sargent Schultz, KNOW NOTHING about Bengazi. Zip. Zero. Nada.
I actually think that was part of their consideration when they decided to back down - that at the end of the day they could not trust his word or commitment to lead from the front instead of behind (them) on this action.
And using proxies, who are actual tough guys, to enforce that image.
Assad has said (so I read somewhere) that Tel Aviv would be hit (somehow) if the U.S. struck Syria.
Why Tel Aviv? Israel is not arming the Syrian “opposition”, but the Saudis and Qatar are and Jordan is hosting CIA-run training camps for “opposition - rebel forces”.
If anyone, Assad should be threatening those that pushing vigorously in the U.S. to see a ramped-up and vigorous U.S. military engagement against Assad. That would be the Saudis and Qatar, and not Israel.
But, like in every major “Arab” crisis, the offended one plays to the broader “Arab street” not reality.
obama is now hoping and praying to Allah that congress tells him not to attack. When Alan Grayson is on TV saying obama needs congress’ approval, you can bet someone is telling him what to say.

When that was first posted I felt that’s what it was. Beside that the conversation as what was reported earlier seemed to be about who did it? and treatment to survivors...Sounds like this going to be another “Bay of Tokin”
We’re getting mixed signals from the Israelis some want US to jump in some don’t, same with the Brits.
When Hussain did this to the Kurds in Iraq we did nothing.
The Turks are jumping on this because the Kurds seemed to have created a semi independent buffer zone near their border. They wouldn’t look too keen about Syria fragmenting into separate states with one for the Alewite (where the Russian naval base is located) and the other for the Kurd.
This whole thing is a huge cluster fork with the head cluster forker running the show.
Amusing until the bullets start to fly.
