That was before Civil Rights took over every part of black life, before LBJ’s War on Poverty paid blacks to throw out their men...before Jackson and Sharpton gave blacks the benefit of their endless wisdom.
Actually, there two groups. The bigger group, with members as those described above, and a smaller group of teens who wish to accomplish something in life, and are usually ostracized by the bigger group. Occasionally, there'll be a politically incorrect article in a local newspaper describing the struggles of the students in that ostracized group.
What's interesting is your mindset. You're so strangled by political correctness that statements of fact and personal accounts amount to nothing but "racism."
For the record, I don't give a damn if anyone thinks I'm a racist. But just for curiosity's sake, was my sister-in-law a racist for defending herself against blacks? Am I a racist for recounting the story?
A while back, a black kid banged my car door with his door. I brought it to his mother's attention, who walked away after calling me a "white bitch." Am I a racist because I didn't get on my knees and apologize for bothering her?
Greta Van Susteren mentioned an incident where some blacks beat a white guy in revenge for Trayvon Martin. The white victim slobbered all over himself, denying the attack was race-based despite being TOLD it was by his attackers. The guy said if he could find the criminals, he would thank them for letting him live.
The white guilt-ridden mindset is pathetic. So are you, if you can't take the truth.
You taught school? Lord have mercy! Now we at last know the source of Rachel Jeantel's illiteracy.
Wow.
Post of the month!!
Haiti is the natural state of being.
White guilt is alive and well, just look at this very thread. The desperate excuse now is that the article is “certainly fake”. That’s real, did I say, desperate!
I recall the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina when the hordes of New Orleans victims were moved to a stadium in Houston. A similar essay appeared on the net, written by a doctor who volunteered his services at the stadium, an essay that was promptly deleted from this forum, because it spoke of very uncomfortable truths. I recall how the doctor described the food service there, where Houston’s finest delis donated the best they had, and the recipients were throwing it all in trash uneaten demanding macburgers and such junk food. Not a single “thank you” was heard. Fake? I don’t think so.

Good post. But check your “racism” at the door, with its intended ugly mental association with Dr Mengele’s experiments and Lawrence Olivier’s dentistry (kidding!), and consider the concept of ethnocentrism, present in every human society in history and in the future as well, you can be certain of that. But the word “ethnocentrism” is not as cool as “racism”, is it?
Racism doesn’t exist. It is a 20th century invention like transistor. Or more like global warming and nuclear winter.
I’m from Pennsylvania.
Actually, in context, I think what he was saying was that he wanted to fight this kid again because he did not bleed enough - only bled from his nose apparently.
Sometimes I fancied myself Tyrtaeus, the Spartan poet, who counseled the youth to honor and loyalty. I never had this kind intimacy with a black student, and I know of no other white teacher who did.
That alone makes the author either wildly incompetent or (more probably) a liar.
Every white urban teacher I know has had some success mentoring black students. And by mentoring, I don't mean just giving advice once or twice. I mean guiding the student on a regular, long-term basis.
In the broken urban school where I taught, there were certainly more mentoring failures than there were mentoring successes. But there were successes, many of them.
The author claims that he knows of no white teacher that has ever had success mentoring an urban black student. That claim alone makes the whole article suspect.
I know that absurd unsupported generalizations about Goebbels and Hitler are all the rage now, no matter what Dr Godwin says, but I am sure you can provide us with links to actual writings of Dr Goebbels containing these "paintings".

Here's a good place to start:
So is post 76 also “pure garbage” and “spreading hatred”? What about other FReepers in this thread who have had similar experiences?
I’m not a teacher (thank God), but I’ve seen nice schools turned into ghetto slums in only a couple of years due to the importing of such individuals as described in this article.
bttt
The dopes in the RNC and other places who want to waste time money and energy trying to get Blacks to vote Republican should be tied to a chair and have this read to them over and over again until they could “Rocky Horror picture Show” it. The way for America to overcome these Black slugs is to concentrate on the WHITE VOTE THE WHITE VOTE THE WHITE VOTE and NOTHING ELSE. Let these takers fight for the crumbs from the tables of the makers because this is the life they have chosen for themselves. I’ll be damned if I help them choose this life for me and my family.
I think #76 is downplaying the good black kids that were at his school, but I might be wrong about that. He could have been at a uniquely bad school, perhaps at an alternative school. Regardless, I respect his experience-based opinion.
But the original "essay" that started this thread does not ring true to me at all. I believe its main goal is to sow racial hatred, and not to actually enlighten anyone. As I mentioned earlier, the "essay" reads like a script from a minstrel show.
