If it wasn’t someone protected by the badge, they’d be in jail, charged with cruel and unusual punishment, probably among other things.
Of course if a peasant kills a police dog, then it’s murder one/ death penalty. But, cops don’t follow the same set of laws they enforce against the rest of us.
How the hell does *anybody* “forget” their dog or kid in a car??
Exactly! I go insane every time I hear about one of these things.
“A necropsy determined heat stroke was the probable cause of the dog’s death.”
What a horrible, agonizing, sloooow way to die.
The poor dog probably sat there staring at the door, waiting for his beloved owner to come out and save him.
This sickens me.
My dogs only see the car in summer for necessary vet visits.
*My* desire to take them out and show them off is stalled until cool weather comes.
Poor dog.
:(
i guess when they think THEY are the center of the universe, nothing else matters...
That’s why you’re my friend, FWF.
You have a right mind.
In the middle of June, we drove 3 hours to get our puppy and arranged our trip to get there just minutes before the kennel closed at 4PM to avoid the worst high heat of the day.
She’s a very ‘hot blooded’ pup and prefers quite cold temps and the ride home nearly scared me to death.
Despite the AC running full blast, she was miserable and uncomfortably “scary” hot in her airline kennel in the back seat so I rode 3 hours home with a big, squirmy pup on what little I have for a “lap” just so I could hold her tummy towards the AC vents in the dash.
She was comfortable then but my back and arms were killing me by the time we got home.
Would I do it again?
You bet.
We took a dog to the vet during the heat wave a few weeks back and we to stop for stuff at the grocery store for her.
Hubby said she’d “probably be okay with the car running” for a few minutes.
The look on my face must’ve been awesome.
He just said “never mind” and sat with her in the car until I came out of the store.
[he might as well have suggested we strap her to the grille for the ride home, for all the difference it makes to me]
;D
Same here Salamander. This happens so often with children and pets here in Arizona. It drives us crazy. We’ve got two Yorkies. Anytime we travel, they too ride in airline kennels, one of us always stays in the car with the AC going if we have to stop anywhere. When we get to where we are going, the Yorkies are the FIRST thing we take out of the car.
I knew you’d be like that...:)
So, here’s a happy ending story to ease this the misery of this thread.

Wtf kind of department does he work for. Most K9 vehicles I’ve seen are set up for providing cooling for the dog when the car is stopped. It comes in the same mods with the auto door release for getting your K9 in action if you get into a scuffle and need help.
Cops never turn their car off with a K-9. Charge him with negligent homicide.
Beats me.
Here in Hooterville, the K9 cars are mechanical wonderments.
The dog lounges in blissful splendor until needed.
One K9 cop I talked to at a biker bar last year made it very plain that his dog was the best thing to ever hit this planet.
We ‘talked dogs’ for at least an hour and he bragged on her something fierce.
I cannot imagine him “forgetting” her.
So...how do I get an “auto door release” for my cars?
Sometimes I’ll find some moron goading the boy into a frenzy from the safety of the exterior of the vehicle.
I’d love to ‘surprise’ one of them, someday.
:D
True, that.
The cop I talked to that whole time was dripping sweat in the hot July night.
His ‘girl’ was sprawled out on the modified back seat with AC, food and water.
She looked...smug.
:)
Still to come? (Or double standards>)
Charge him with negligent homicide.

You mean negligent “dogicide,” don’t you? This was not a homo sapiens that died, after all, sad as it is.
Kill a K-9 as a civilian and see what you are charged with
A cop can kill all the civilians he wants to, and their dogs. But a K-9 dog is part of the club.
