Hungry for another claimed example of a deadly Stand-Your-Ground defensive encounter, the mainstream media has seized upon the gas-station shooting death of a black man by a rifle-armed woman, also black, this past Sunday in Houston.
Video of the encounter was captured by the gas station’s security cameras, both inside the enclosed portion of the station, where it seems the encounter began, and out by the pumps where the encounter turned deadly.
Much of the information available to date is from “news” sources, so the “facts” as described must be considered malleable. It appears, however, that the man made some unwanted sexual advances on the woman inside the gas station.
When the woman was standing beside her car near the pumps, the man–58-year-old Louis Daniel–who was killed can be seen circling around the rear of the car, in an aggressive predator-like fashion, then closing distance with her. He was holding what appears to be an umbrella in his right hand, and the news claims he was holding a knife in his left, although this is not discernible in the low qualify security footage. A knife was, however, recovered near his body.
Looked like self-defense to me.
I heard Quanell X (of all people) on Michael Berry this morning explaining her story. Sounds legit. There is a problem that she appear to pull her weapon before he did his ... though she says he threatened. Said she took a picture of the knife the guy was holding (not the corpse) for fear it would be disappeared by one of his friends ... and that she fled the scene because he had a lot of friends there, but called 911 as soon as she got home.
My inclination is to say self-defense, SYG ... and that Quanell should shut-up about Zimmerman if he’s going to jump to the other side of stand-your-ground for this chick.

I would have shot him too. He was attacking her. She shot him in self defense. It seems very clear to me in the video.

I have to say at first blush with all I saw and heard, not sure she needed to go this far. But, it’s 50/50 at this point. Worst would probably be manslaughter in my eyes.
Guess I was right the dude was “older”. 58 is reasonably so. I was expecting at most a 40yo punk.
As far as “his friends” - I heard eyewitnesses corroborated much of her story. Not sure she’d have to worry much about friends around. I’d’ve tried to go back in to call 911.
The 911 call is new information. If it occurred, it would do a lot to have her “no billed”.
The early reports were that the police tracked her down from a licence plate taken from a witness or surveillance camera.

It would only be questionable if Shanequia were White or White Hispanic.
She didn’t have the gun until confronted by the would-be perp. From my viewpoint, it was a righteous shooting.
Dang, she’s quick then.

Here’s a link to a podcast of Michael Berry’s interview with Quanell X about the case (for those who don’t know them ... Berry is probably the best radio show host I’ve heard since Limbaugh, and Quanell is a Black Panther windbag that’s occasionally not wrong).
Quanell is representing her in the media. He mentions the 911 call. I only heard the first half before I got to the office, though.

Close call. She walks past him to get out her rifle. She could have driven off. But he pulled a knife.
If the woman were white and dead man black, where do you think all these folks would be on this issue?
(Keep all other factors of the video and event the same except race.)
This is a no brainer. Surely she wasn’t arrested. Right?
