What is your favorite aviation movie?
one man's opinion...
Posted on 07/06/2013 4:42:52 PM PDT by ken5050
Well, the cable news networks are non stop with their coverage of the air crash in San Francisco. Looking at the pictures, it seems a miracle that the number of fatalities is so low. If there is one unintended consequence of this crash..at least we will be spared talk about Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman for the next few days. As the networks are talking aviation and nothing but, I thought it would be a slight diversion to discuss our favorite aviation themed movies.

It seemed to take a LOT longer for him to speak the commands in Russian than to just press a fire button with his thumb.

Saw it with my daughter in the theater in 2006. Since then she has refused to sit next to me, or anywhere near me for that matter, in the theater. I like to cheer for the good guys.
It was great on the big screen. The dog fights were epic.

>>. The plane crashed in the desert and they made a working plane from the parts and flew out.<<
“Flight of the Phoenix”
Also (SPOLIER ALERT) the kicker was that...
The guy who designed the Phoenix was a model airplane maker (not real planes but DON’T CALL THEM TOYS!)

Agreed. Not the greatest movie but as the Spitfires are taking off into battle with music it stirs your soul like few movies can.
Absolutely!

Strategic Air CommandYes, I loved that movie. Sadly, I don not believe it is available on DVD. I did purchase a used VHS of it on ebay, though.
Another good movie (for its flying scenes, not so much for its plot) is The Final Countdown. I still think the Tomcat is one of the coolest fighters ever.

I love Final Countdown. It’s on Netflix streaming.
I’d like to see an alternate ending where the carrier participates WWII.
