Whenever something bad happens to America, look for the connection back to Obama's boss, George Soros. This time, it's the IRS using its considerable muscle to bully conservative organizations with the ultimate goal of voter suppression.
Jeffrey Lord, writing for The American Spectator points to Jason Furman, Obama's top economic adviser. It's a position that, by the way, did not require senate approval. While Lord's column was focused on 17 year tax cheat, Charlie Rangel who was never harassed by the IRS, it reveals some interesting facts about Furman as well as former IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman.
Just last week Furman was promoted to his post as Chairman of the President's Council of Economic Advisers. Before that he was Deputy Director of the National Economic Council in the White House.
Doug Shulman must certainly have thought highly of Furman. You remember Shulman, former IRS Commissioner. He's the one who smirked about being at the White House for the Easter egg roll. Furman accompanied Shulman to the White House at least six times out of the 157 visits Shulman made, none of which were on Easter egg roll day.
Not to re-litigate the Bush years, but his IRS Commissioner visited the White House once. The position is supposed to be apolitical.
Why was such access granted to Furman? Cynical types could suspect it's because of his mother. Gail Furman is a funder for Soros groups, including Media Matters, which had no problems getting their 501(c)(3) status under the IRS' watchful eye.
Gail Furman also heads her own foundation that donates not just to Media Matters but to Soros funded J Street, the Tides Foundation and the legendary Center for American Progress. Gail also serves on the board of Soros' Democracy Alliance.
Imagine if the IRS had given Media Matters the same scrutiny it gave to organizations it's been giving to groups that mention such inflammatory language as "patriot" or "prayer". If your organization's mission is to destroy America, your application will slide right on through.

You are looking at the first unraveling of a grand conspiracy to destroy what America is and what it stands for by suppression of the conservative opposition to groups liberal. The use of the IRS to intimidate, slow-down and demoralize tax-free entities is only the surface. Look deeper to see how the IRS was also used to intimidate voting groups, to intimidate money contributors and to intimidate the press. Notice that the media never looked into the allegationsa of how the IRS was being abused. Do you think that was accidental? If yes, please buy this bridge I have to sell you.
This will bring down Obama et al...impeachment scheduled for 2014. Those senators who choose to stand in the way will pay the pay at the polls.
Were you alive during the Clinton presidency? Don’t hold your breath until something brings the whole thing down. Those kinds of proclamations appeared here dozens of times a week “way back then.”
Clinton and Obama are just manifestations of the sickness that is the Democrat party. Every day there are more stories about the corrupt Democrat party. What a great Summer!
Clinton's stuff got turned into "It's all about sex" and what business is it of ours, etc.
This is about the IRS, profiling and other abuses of power by the IRS.
People like sex and they liked Bill Clinton, but no one likes the IRS. Most people fear the IRS and want nothing to do with them.
No way this goes away, but it's likely a few will be put away. Impeachment is just one item on the itinerary, unless all hell breaks out first.
Your response tells me that you have bought into the line that the Clinton’s used to save their butts. It was not about Monica. That was what they used to escape the probable results of a completed Independent Council finding of criminal activity in Arkansas.
Since you cite The American Spectator and also conflate Media Matters’ 501-C3 status as though the IRS just granted it, let me remind you that before Media Matters existed, its founder, David Brock, was a writer for the American Spectator, and it was well back in the Clinton Administration that he started Media Matters with the urging and support of Hillary Clinton.
Thanks for posting this - interesting read! The “liberal dog whistle” fits what a lot of FReepers have been saying - Obama didn’t need to formally direct anyone to go after FNC or conservatives.
One practically needs a scorecard to keep track of all these players. Since it was a bit of a long article, I captured some info and quotes from it and combined it with a little research I’ve done:
Shulman:
1. Former IRS Director was appointed by GW Bush and the Dems keep bringing that point up during the hearings. However, he has donated to the Dems, is married to a Dem (see below) and from the article:
“In fact, when it came time to pick a new IRS Commissioner at the end of the Bush administration, as Bush White House press secretary Dana Perino has noted Democrats were not about to approve a Bushie for the IRS job that carried a five-year term. Bush was at the end of his second term, the GOP had already lost the 2006 election that made Pelosi Speaker and Harry Reid the Majority Leader of the Senate — the latter the place where IRS Commissioners are confirmed. Thus the IRS nominee had to be acceptable to Democrats. This was the supposedly “non-partisan” IRS, so the Bush administration simply decided this was one fight they didn’t need in the middle of two wars and all the rest of Bush troubles. At the end of November 2007, Shulman was nominated by Bush.”
2. Until May 21, Shulman was supposed to potentially take a job as head of CBOE after his term at the IRS, until the scandal broke (see William Brodsky below) and he had to withdraw his name.
3. Shulman visited WH 157 times. At least 6 of those times he visited Jason Furman (see more in sections below)
4. Shulman was on the stage with Charlie Rangel at the Harlem Food Bank 8 months after the NY Times in 2008 was calling for Rangel to step down from his chair of the Ways & Means Committee due to his tax issues – note that Charlie is still on the Ways & Means Committee and has been involved in their IRS Hearings.

Rangel would in fact face not one but five challengers in the looming 2010 primary, with his opponents making much of his IRS problems. The food bank benignly advertised the occasion this way:

Was Douglas Shulman really that politically dumb? Or was he, in the ways of the left-leaning Washington Beltway crowd, clever, canny and smart?
Rangel was at the time the head of the uber-powerful tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee. The Food Bank of New York City lists as one of its “Mission Partners” the “Soros Management Fund LLC” — that being the firm of George Soros, the left-wing financial Godfather and funder of all manner of leftwing tax-exempt groups. The latter including Media Matters.
If you are the IRS Commissioner —and know you will eventually not be the IRS Commissioner and yet still need a job — isn’t it smart to schmooze Mr. Chairman Rangel at a Soros Funded food bank? After all, other than an unflattering story in the New York Post — who cares? “

IRS found time to investigate conservative groups, couldn’t find time to investigate Media Matters (partially funded by Jason and Jesse’s mother, Gail). “In the same liberal network where a group — the Progressive Majority— gets a contribution from Shulman’s wife — and sends its president, Gloria Totten, to a series of dinners for yet another liberal group where a co-host is…Jason Furman’s mother.”
What was going on during Shulman’s 6 trips to the WH to see Furman between Sept 2009 & Nov 2010 – starting in Sept 2009, the White House stepped up its attacks on Fox News. Media Matters started a war on FNC on March 27, 2011. Fox pushed back, including putting a pre-completed complaint forms against Media Matters to send to the IRS on its website.

In the meetings on March 12, Kaiser met with former Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors Austan Goolsbee at 11 a.m., Senior Advisor Pete Rouse at 3 p.m., and Deputy Director of the Domestic Policy Council Heather Higginbottom at 6:30 p.m. On the 13th, Kaiser met with Deputy Director of the National Economic Council Jason Furman at 9 a.m.
As TheDC previously reported, Solyndra officials, including Kaiser himself, donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to Barack Obama.

Was this new job his reward for getting Kaiser Solyndra loan? Gail Furman is on the board of the Afghan Council with Pat Mitchell whose on a number of boards including her husbands - Seydel - Global Green USA. Don’t have time to look but is their a connection between Seydel (Pat Mitchell’s husband - Seydel) and George Kaiser.

I forgot to mention that Global Green USA is the American version of International Green Cross which was founded by Mikhail Gorbachev (friend of Maurice Strong and Stephen Rockefeller). Patricia E Mitchell’s husband = Scott Seydel.
There’s a Stephen Mitchell who was a director at Solyndra - don;t know if he could be a relative of Patricia’.

I think perhaps one needs to connect Obama’s Jason Furman with the loans to get anywhere with this... I believe they probably laundered the money from all these failed green projects vis Global Green USA and into Mikhail Gorbachev’s International Green Cross but who knows. Why was Kaiser given first precident over solyndra’s bankrupt milllions and not the American taxpayer - maybe his reward...they all got a piece of the pie and I remain pisssed that they stole our hard earned money.

Solyndra Board of Directors member, Steve Mitchell, also sits on the board of Solar Reserve, the parent company of Tonopah Solar, which just secured a $737 MILLION loan guarantee from U.S. taxpayers via the Department of Energy. A second loan guarantee for $337 MILLION was approved last week for Mesquite Solar 1.
How much was Jason Furbar involved in all these loans? Is Steve Mitchell a relation of Patricia Mitchell...that would be too good to be true.
