With apologies to Aristotle, there is one thing that abhors a vacuum even more than nature, and that is politics. As the Obama scandals continue to unfold, every Democrat is already thinking HARD about what might happen, and what it might mean for 2016. So let's speculate as well, shall we....
I begin with a few assumptions. While you may not agree with all of them, they are viable:
1. The Democrats have ZERO chance of winning the House in 2014. They never really did; redistricting made that almost impossible, but as a rallying cry to raise $$$, and excite their base, it made sense. Now, with all the unfolding scandals, that's off the table. I think the GOP will actually GAIN seats in the next House.
2. The GOP will win control of the Senate in 2014. Yes, they blew it in 2010 and 2012, but this time, the stars seem in perfect alignment, and the Obama scandals make it even more likely. There are no GOP seats that are really at risk, and all the GOP needs is to win the senate contests in the states that Romney won. That is becoming easier to envision every day. In addition, there are several Democrat seats in blue states are vulnerable.
3. Hillary will NOT run in 2016. A few months ago, she was being anointed as the presumptive nominee. They were trying to clear the field for her early on, make her appear inevitable. I believe that Benghazi, coupled with her close proximity to Obama for the first term, will at the least cause several challengers to appear, and if what we suspect happened in Benghazi is true, that she bears considerable responsibility for the death of four Americans, she won't run.
We now find ourselves post 2014, with a GOP controlled Congress, and a truly weakened lame-duck President Obama. Tainted by scandals, and ongoing investigations, instead of being the great "savior" of Democrats in 2016, (remember Obama, before the 2010 elections, telling Democrats: "The difference between 1994 and 2010 is this time, you've got me..." ) he will prove to be more toxic than Jimmy Carter. All national Democrats will be looking to distance themselves from Obama early on, and the ONLY Democrats that have a chance for the nomination will be governors.
Notes:
1.Some think that with Hillary out, that moves Biden to the front, but he will be too tainted with Obama's messes to have any realistic chance.
2. Kerry will think about it, but not for long. And if he does, just wait until America gets its first glimpse of Teresa in eight years..
3.It should be pointed out that as a result of the 2014 Congressional elections, the polarization in Washington will be ever worse. The GOP majorities will be more conservative, and the reduced Democrat caucuses in the House and senate will be much more liberal, much further to the hard left, thus making any of them all but unelectable on a national ticket. ( One exception: Mark Warner, but he has kept a very low profile. It would be a real stretch) And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that Eleanor Clift actually thinks that Kirsten Gillibrand: "Her time is now!"
So, what Democrat governors are there?
Jerry Brown: sure, in a flash back moment... but betcha he's thinking "why not?"
Andy Cuomo: NY's a mess, getting messier, and Cuomo's a terrible public speaker..never get off the ground.
Hickenlooper: His inner leftie has shown itself. Even money to lose his e-election
Martin O'Malley: Polished, smooth, already taking on a bigger national profile..but he has a BIG tax-and-spend track record..and the Baltimore prison scandal is just starting to unravel.
Deval Patrick: Come on. ANOTHER black liberal? No way, after Obama. Besides, he did a lousy job after the Boston bombing, locking down most of the city, and with the IRS scandal, BIG government, isn't that popular anymore. And just wait till we learn how much $$ the Boston bombers, and their entire miserable families, got from the public dole.
That's the REAL point of this whole exercise. Absent Hillary, the Dems have NOBODY. An incredibly weak bench.
And that's why we have a superb opportunity, in 2016, to elect a CONSERVATIVE president, to work with a CONSERVATIVE Congress, to turn this country around.
And anyone who doubts that political minds of both parties aren't already running these scenarios, and there implications, well...maybe you should draft Jay Carney for the Democrat nomination
GOWDY/CRUZ 2016 either fine.
Democrats’ plan is to note have elections in 2016.
Leni..whatcha think?
Obama is going to resign. It’s only a question of “When?”.
Jeb Bush is thinking hard about 2016, The RNC is thinking hard about Jeb Bush. It is Jeb’s turn in the Republican scheme of things.
That’s very funny..but then again..it isn’t...kudos!
The dems have one big gun left- JebBush, the guy whose turn it is for the Republicans. His nomination will not improve the Democrats’ chances of winning an honest election (i.e. if the touch screen vote machines are all scrapped) but it won’t matter a hell of a lot to conservatives whether a Democrat wins or a Bushocrat wins.
A Democrat plan is to increase the number of states using touch screen voting machines.
I posted on this forum several weeks ago that IMO Hillary will not run. Just about every passing day and event just reinforces my prediction that she will be a no-show in the Democrat presidential sweepstakes.
I DO feel, however, that Kerry will be the Dem nominee. I can't see anyone beating him consistently in the various Dem primaries should he choose to run....especially now that he has the cachet of being Secretary of State.
I feel he covets the presidency very badly....and so does his money-bags wife.
Leni
I can imagine a Bush resigning or a Clinton or just about any other president since Eisenhower except for Reagan or 0bama. Reagan was too sure of his mission. The kenyan is too wrapped in his princely ego. I can imagine him suddenly flipping out when it all seems to be rapidly coming down on him and doing an Aurora theater act in a crowded Oval Office but I can’t see him resigning.
Remember how Obama looked a year before the election? That was a man who didn’t like his job. He liked the benefits, but he hated having to work that hard. I think the Democrats offered him some big money to run again. They also talked to him about the importance of keeping the Republicans from the Presidency in 2012. Obama is going to take the money and run. What else can he accomplish as President? Everything is turning to crap. He’s going to run and the Democrats are going to blame the Republicans. Did you see the photo CBS released of Obama at his high school prom? Why would CBS release that photo now? It’s a setup. They are going to act all innocent about that photo, when it actually has the darkest of purposes. They will then claim that the racist Republicans want to remove Obama from the Presidency because he dated a blonde, white girl. It’s a disgusting setup worthy of the nazis. The Democrat leaders are horrible people who will employ every dirty, filthy maneuver to keep their access to the US treasury so they can loot it.

I genuinely can’t seem to muster any interest whatsoever in 2016. Between the situation of America itself having seemingly passed the point-of-no-return, and my disgust with the backstabbing GOP-E and their next inevitable RINO, whomever that may be, the mere thought of the next presidential sweepstakes basically nauseates me. Used to love the topic, weighing all the potentialities, but it all seems rather pointless to me now.
Maybe if Palin or Cruz are on the ticket, it will rev up my engines. Otherwise, it’s hard to care. At the rate the GOP has been caving on issues, both fiscal and social, I wouldn’t even be surprised if I might not even bother to vote come 2016.
Obama will NEVER resign. He is clearly far too arrogant and stuck on himself to even think about that.
Say what you will about Tricky Dickie, but he refused to put the country through a divisive recount in 1960, and had the grace to resign when his troubles threatened to divide us again.
The Dems have already proven that they would do the former, and, I suspect, would never, ever consider the latter.
History proves you correct. Only the 'Pubs quit. The 'Rats take the fight right to the end. Al Gore took his election fight all the way to the Supreme Court and kept the country in an uncertain state for months. Bill Clinton dragged the fight for his presidency right into the well of the Senate because he knew the 'Rats would back him no matter what came out. Obama isn't going anywhere. He's going to slither through these scandals untouched, probably with a higher popularity rating from the idiot sheeple. Because he says he didn't know anything, and the sheeple believe him. It means he's nothing more than the village idiot, but evidently sheeple are okay with that.
Dems could not get elected without lies, fraud and promising to redistribute your hard earned dollars to the takers. If they told the truth they would lose every election.
Jimmy Carter (still eligible, since he only served one term)...92 as of election day 2016
Michelle Obama (potentially first woman President, and first native-born African-American President)
Joe Biden, the second-most-brillian Vice President of the 21st century
Dick Durbin (almost as personable as Harry Reid)
Julian Castro (gave a speech at the 2012 DNC, and not related to that guy in Cleveland)
Chelsea Clinton (lots of name recognition)
Monica Lewinsky (lots of White House experience)
