Good evening,
My family and I have been planning to move from our current residence for several months now. We are considering three cities: San Antonio or Austin, Texas, and Nashville, Tennessee.
Our family has decided to move due to a lack of opportunity in the job market, lack of education/extra-curricular activities, political ineptitude in our local government, an anti-entrepreneurial government agenda, as well as a high cost of living.
For those of you who may feel it's your duty to warn, discourage, and dissuade us from considering AUSTIN due to the populations uber-liberal mindset, let me reassure you; we are well aware of the political leanings in Austin.
What I am seeking is information especially from those of you who are residence of these cities. ANY information is deeply appreciated.
My family and I are seeking to operate our own business. We will be working in the music industry, but also desire to provide music workshops/performances.

What’s the “different” as well as DIFFRENCE? :^)
Austin is a blue dot on a mainly red state. I live in a suburb of Austin—but try to never go there if it can be helped.
I think San Antonio is more conservative, even though it has a very high Hispanic population.
I don’t know much about the job markets, though, as I’ve been retired for several years, now.
For music, I would go with Austin or Nashville.
The difference is Austin is a liberal cesspool that will be firebombed when the revolution comes, and San Antonio is part of Texas.
What kind of music ? Austin has a big music scene.
Both it and SA have some nice country nearby (Hill Country).
My friend has an Americana/roots band and decided to move down there after living in New York for a few years.
Dallas isn’t too safe. Friends of mine had their tires stripped the first night they were there.
I agree with the blue in Austin...definitely a liberal town. Have you thought of Houston...our job market is great, great diversity, housing is cheap to buy, and close to the other two. Very multi-cultural and a great theater district.
Thank you. 1066AD, the Hill Country has interested me of late. Beautiful region. We’re open concerning genres. Our family worked in the music industry for many years, but we took some time off to raise the kids. Now they are musicians, so we wish to jump back into the business.
We had actually planned to move to Nashville, but we have been reading about the city and surrounding area, and the high rate of respiratory infections and problems associated with the region. This is a great concern to us. One of the family members is Asthmatic.
Look at Williamson County. Near Austin. Conservative. Near one of if not the highest growth in the State of Texas.
My daughter & son-in-law have a home there. Just off the toll road to Austin. If you must commute get in quick and back out of Austin.
Round Rock area but nearly in the country.
I lived in San Antonio and it was nice enough tho I have heard it has gone down a lot. Instead of Austin, I would go maybe 30 miles up the road to San Marcos. It is a nice town with a large university whose campus is beautiful and not as liberal as Austin.
A nice size town with pleasant location would be Huntsville, Alabama. I read that the original German scientists who were moved there after WWII liked it so much they had a lot of their friends and relatives also come there.
I have friends in Nashville and about the only good thing they say is no state income tax.
Another very scenic town is Pensacola, Florida. Also no state income tax. Also about as conservative as you age going to find.
For music I would go to Austin rather than San Antonio. Austin is prettier and nicer in terms of upkeep probably because of the state capitol being there as well as UT. The suburbs are probably better than San Antonio’s. Austin also has a better job market.
Politically, Austin is more liberal.

Thanks, Texas Fossil. What’s the avg commute time from Williamson County? Also, we are concerned about affects on those with respiratory problems. I know an individual who lives just outside of Austin. She informs me that if you suffer from allergies, spring time can be brutal.
You don't pal around with liberals now so don't pal around with them in Austin, either. There are conservatives there. Texas law abides in Austin just as it does in the rest of the state.

San Antonio is a major city like many others, while Austin embraces every indency you can imagine.
Personally, I prefer Austin to San Antonio. Austin isn’t perfect, but it has - in my opinion - more character than San Antonio. SA is kind of boring to me. However, you mention that one of your family is asthmatic. With that in mind, you should check out the expected type and volume of pollen levels in Austin. Its “cedar fever” is infamous.
