Michael Sullivan is running for the Republican nomination for Senate in Massachusetts. In his latest mail flyer (above) he prominently shows a USMC AV-8B Harrier below statements about how strong he is on national defense, suggesting his own military service. The problem is that he has no military service, but is instead a career pol. I strongly believe this is a cynical and unacceptable attempt to portray himself as something he is not.
A Republican opponent, Gabriel Gomez, IS a former Naval Aviator and SEAL who shows in his adds an E-2C Hawkeye catching the wire aboard the boat. I guess Sullivan needed to whistle-up something to combat Gomez's military creds. Sullivan owes the voters an apology.
The Harrier represents the amount of hot air this guy is capable of blowing.
I don’t see anything dishonest there — it’s quite straightforward at showing he he believes his law career can be shown a support for the military, and makes no claims as to any military experience.
I guess the objection would the use of the military plane in the ad? I don’t see that as dishonest, but YMMV.
Whether or not Sullivan’s add is misleading, I’ll still pick the other guy - a naval aviator and SEAL before ANY career slime...er..politician.
In the liberal cesspool called Taxachusetts, it might be wise for an (R) to DOWNPLAY his military service.
On the other hand, if he’s ever had gay sex, he may want to work *that* into the ad somehow.
Democrat Sen Richard Blumenthal of CT repeatedly made allusions to his service in Vietnam. While he did serve in uniform he never set foot in Vietnam or any combat area ever. He finally grudgingly admitted that he may have been “unclear” about his service.
Sen Richard Bloomin’ Liar
The ad looks pretty straightforward to me, also. You might not like the guy, and I have no idea whether he’s any good or not. But I don’t see any false claim of military service in that advertisement.
As a former Service Member, I do not see a problem here....
He stating his position on defense, not that he served...
A tempest in a teapot....
Now, if ya’ want to whack him on his previous or current positions, feel free....
ATF Director, Sullivan’s a good little Nazi. Burn those children in Waco to a fricking crisp. Why doesn’t Hussein put this cow flop in his cabinet. I don’t care how many alleged weapons violations that the ATF thought the Branch Davidian’s had committed, the ATF could have grabbed their leader at the 7/11 every morning as he jogged by. Sullivan’s a Nazi period!
I've never been in the military, only a dependent and sibling of. But I post things all the time that insinuate that I'm hoo-ray for active and retired military and their families. I even get the occasional nasty-gram from libs because they think I'm USMC. In this case I think it's in the eye of the beholder.
Are you &^%$ing kidding me? It suggests nothing of the kind. Gabriel Gomez is a Deval Patrick and Barack Obama toe licker of the first order and has ZERO business calling himself a Republican.
The line, “Tested and Trusted”, makes me think he was in the military. He’s got a pretty good CV so maybe he’s referring to being an attorney and ATF Director.
Under his name it says, “US Attorney with the experience to lead on National security.”
I’d give him a pass although it does appear he was slyly trying to imply he served.
At least he didn’t claim to be in SEAL team 6. I forgot what biography I read but in it, he said that most phonies pick SEAL team 6 to claim to be a member of.
Forget the ad, if you’re in his state, vote for whoever’s stance is what you believe is best for your state.
Please! There’s nothing misleading here. Yes, Gomez does have military cred. But he’s a closet democrat. Sullivan the prosecutor of terrorists is just the man we need right now, not a Deval Patrick flatterer and Obama contributor.
Lighten up Francis. It was a joke.
I just got an email from Bill Weld endorsing Gomez.
I’ll stick with Sullivan.
You hit my “pushing a moderate” nerve, haha.
I do not see that this implies he served in the military.
Press reports out tonight indicate that we have a major problem in the Special Election for U.S. Senate which takes place in just over a week.
According to the Massachusetts Republican newspaper, Obama supporter Gabriel Gomez has raised over $580,000 - plus loaned his campaign another $500,000 - which has given him a campaign warchest of over $1 million.
Gomez, you'll recall, endorsed Barack Obama for president, contributed to his campaign and pledged his support for Obama's agenda, particularly on immigration reform (amnesty) and gun control.
The conservative Republican candidate in the race, Michael Sullivan (who we have endorsed) has raised just under $200,000. This means Gomez holds a nearly 5-to-1 fundraising advantage over Sullivan.
We have 9 days to narrow this gap and raise enough money to make this race competitive and ensure a victory for constitutional conservative, Michael Sullivan over Obama-supporter, Gabriel Gomez.
About Michael Sullivan: A self-described "proud Republican," Michael Sullivan is an American success story. Sullivan started as a stock clerk for the Gillette Corporation and after 16 years with the company he worked his way up to become Assistant to the President.
A graduate of Boston College and Suffolk University Law School, Sullivan has served as a Republican State Representative, a District Attorney and U.S. Attorney. While U.S. Attorney, Sullivan helped prosecute a number of terrorism cases including the infamous "Shoe Bomber" Richard Reid.

Again, FWIW.
