The Next Wedding I Perform
One of the neat things that we pastors get to do is to perform weddings. What a thrill it is to see a young couple declare their love before the world and to be part of their special day!
And so its with great excitement and emotion that I will be performing a wedding this weekend. I have been asked to do the honors for a young couple I know up in Iowa, friends of the family. Steven and his partner Adam have been in a loving, committed relationship for over three months now, and since Iowa is a state that believes in marriage equality, Adam and Steve have decided to tie the knot. And Ill be there to officiate!
Ive been working with the couple on planning the service, and Im really looking forward to it! The Manilow medley, the confetti dropI get goose bumps! Im already working on my sermon, There Is Neither Male Nor Female (Gal. 3:28). And I may get a bit misty-eyed when its time to say the words I now pronounce you man and man and You may kiss the spouse. Another thingIve never worn a sequined stole before! Say yes to the vestment, baby!
Now will Adam and Steve face problems in their marriage? Of course they will. Steven is a dog person, and Adam has a cat. But love will find a way. Butch the bulldog and Félice the cat are already in therapy, working on their relationship. We are hopeful.
Wedding bells are about to ring! So this weekend, its off to Waterloo! It should be fabulous!
Adam and Steve, youll just have to find somebody else to do your wedding.
I’m evolving.
This may be an April first joke, but same sex marriage is NOT. I don’t find this funny at all.
Got to love the new mass weddings:
Jim and Julie.
Frank and Fred.
Mulhameed and Sasha, Sally, Linda, Janet and her 12 year old daughter Mary.
George and his dead cousin’s body.
Frank and his pet duck.
Mike and his inflatable girlfriend, “Violet”.
The difference between a heterosexual marriage and a homosexual marriage is that even though both couples may have been shacking up before the date, the homosexual couple will continue to be living in sin.
You got me Charles! :)
Maybe even REvolving! LOL!
Just thought I would highlight that part, for no good reason.
Even on days other than April 1st, I know of no state that forbids gays to marry. There is no sexual orientation test on any marriage license application, and I’m pretty sure that no state still has a marriage consummation provision on the books anymore. God might have some issues with people joining in falsehood, but I’ll leave that for Him to sort out.
I do take issue with people trying to change the definition of marriage away from ‘the union of one man and one woman in matrimony.’
I plumb forgot it's April Fools day. Time flies when you're having fun here in frigid Florida.

When Adam and Steve first met; at the truck stop on route 99, they knew they were meant to be. Steve was in stall 5, and Adam in stall 6, Steve casually dropped one square of toilet paper, Adam responded and instantly they knew where they were headed...
So Adam and Steve decided to quit stalling and get married.
Hey, you hooked me! At least well into the second paragraph. And I had my radar out looking for April Fools Day gags.
Good one.
You almost had me there for a moment..
;o)
Happy April Fool’s Day
I know you well enough (on the internet, anway) to have immediately detected an April Fools joke.
Sad thing is, Charles, how long before you are forced by our government or your denomination to do that very thing?
My denomination, the Lutheran ChurchMissouri Synod (LCMS), would definitely not force me to perform gay marriages. Quite the opposite! Our guys would be among those thrown in jail for refusing to do them!
And don't forget... "Pvt. Pyle" and his rifle, "Charlene."
That’s good to hear.
Too many churches are caving to what they perceive public opinion to be. They’ve forgotten that God’s truth is not subject to the whims of society.
