If someone today argued for laws to legally bar interracial marriage that person would universally be labeled a bigot.
But in 1967 when the U.S. Supreme Court in Loving v. Virginia struck down state laws prohibiting interracial marriage, 73% of Americans still supported them. Did that mean that more than 70% of Americans at that time were bigots? No. But there certainly came a time that you were one if you continued advocating for such discriminatory laws.

“Huckabee, Santorum urge GOP not to go soft on social issues like gay marriage”
The homos respond in mass to all these articles. We must go their ourselves to post opinions and give thumbs UP to the people who oppose this deviance and thumbs DOWN to the homosexual commenters. Please pass this one to your ping group Jeremiah and keep pushing.
That place (those forums members) are VERY sick in their heads :/
It was very one sided, and you were the only one there that was civil, even if they THOUGHT or “felt” that they were :p
Man, this world is going insane and most don’t even realize it yet :/
I’ve been there on that forum and off since 2005 and have met some of those folks in person. Absent that “discussion”, we tend to stick to talk about new construction or historic preservation in our downtown (issues I’m interested in).
It is interesting to watch the reactions, though, when you see these social issues discussed. Note that it wasn’t one of “I disagree”, but one of visceral villification and that all of my “offending speech” should be summarily silenced. They gasp in indignation when I call that fascistic, but it is precisely what it is. The left abhors free speech, it’s why they champion PC (a Stalinist invention).
It is why I believe that before long, another civil war is almost inevitable. The disconnect and polarization of two competing values systems, one of right and one of wrong, cannot be reconciled in any other way.
I know exactly what you mean, and conversation among ‘friends’ whether online or in person, I avoid politics like a plague (being I only know in person of 1 Conservative here... not counting the FReepers here, of course).
Can’t have a decent conversation about politics with the libtards (American or otherwise).
Add in that because almost EVERYTHING has been politicized (largely thanks to the left), right down to drinking cups at the 7-11, there’s almost no avoiding the subject. The shared values of what was right and wrong 50 years ago, perhaps even 30 years ago, are all rendered subjective now. One “wrong” comment to these people, and you’re labelled (racist/bigot/judgmental, et al). I am so sick and tired of what these folks have done on every possible level.
