If someone today argued for laws to legally bar interracial marriage that person would universally be labeled a bigot.
But in 1967 when the U.S. Supreme Court in Loving v. Virginia struck down state laws prohibiting interracial marriage, 73% of Americans still supported them. Did that mean that more than 70% of Americans at that time were bigots? No. But there certainly came a time that you were one if you continued advocating for such discriminatory laws.

We're already in (or quite near) the middle of the 'tribulation' so Mr. Obeidallah will soon find out that he's among the world's losers in this little tussle.
Stay on-topic; that being Barack Hussein Obama and his whole administration is trying to set up a socialist/communist dictatorship, destroy the Constitution, and bring this country down into a cesspool of debt and moral depravity. Anything else is just noise and a diversion. - (Why are they arming themselves to the hilt?)
You are absolutely correct. Nobody ever argued against inter-racial marriage on the grounds of marriage’s definition, because its definition never made any mention of race, stretching all the way back to the Bible. The arguments that were used were based on racial purity and supremacy. This is fundamentally different.
You cannot alter the definition of marriage because its not a human concept. It’s a concept from beyond this world, given to us by our creator, and its the same whichever religion you are talking about, and let me say this...
Other religions outside of so-called ‘Christian’ society will never accept it. The Muslims sure as hell won’t recognize it. Hinduism - “Premarital and extramarital sex are wrong, and because homosexuals CANNOT MARRY, they should not engage in sexual relationships.”
We could even mention the Amish community. Are they ‘bigots’? What an outrageous assertion. According to these people, the majority of individuals on this earth are bigots, and bigotry is some sort of transient concept that changes which indicates if pedophilia became acceptable in our society (and that’s not ridiculous because it has become acceptable in a few societies), those against it would be the new bigots.
The word ‘bigot’ is becoming the new ‘racist’. A word thrown around so often, its lost all meaning anyway. Essentially, anyone who disagrees with me is a bigot.
Bigotry is a very, very tall-a oak that-a grows in Naples.
If so, then I’m a bigot.
Ain’t MARRAGE.
Marrage is for the children.
So—call it SOMETHING ELSE.
As for the “bigot” BS—go f#ck yo#rself.
On my local urban forum, our “ugliest” thread is on this subject. Yours truly is basically the only one fighting the good fight...

This is why the Bible says that the gate to heaven is narrow
Nonsense. Just lose the call.
I just lost a longtime friend I considered very dear over this. Oddly, she likes to call herself a conservative, but I think libertarian is closer to the mark, as she’s strongly supportive of gay rights/marriage and abortion. We’d actually had a discussion about homosexuality and gay marriage shortly before I moved to Texas. We didn’t see eye to eye, but she gave me a respectful hearing even as she challenged me in some areas, and she seemed open to me backing up my statements with additional information.
On Facebook, she joined the ranks of those changing their profile image to a variation of the equality logo, which prompted me to follow up our earlier conversation with some more comments and links to articles that supported things I was telling her. Until then, she had always seemed open to new information, regardless of whether she embraced it as factual or not. She’s had to be careful in her opposition to Obama (she despises him and recognizes him as a dangerous Marxist).
Somehow, between our conversation last summer and yesterday, she abandoned any semblance of that open mind. She reacted to my e-mail with a vitriol that quite frankly made me contemplate the possibility of demonic possession (and she’s an actress in a popular vampire show, so I guess I can’t rule out that as an explanation). She called me a bigot, hateful and a Nazi, told me that she was not going to bother reading any material I had offered, and promptly unfriended me on Facebook. I was quite frankly stunned, as she had never displayed that sort of irrationality in the past. It’s left me very sad. I had actually thought she might be salvageable.
Actually, I’m not sure what a bigot is, but if it’s someone that believes that Marriage is defined as holy wedlock between one man and one woman then I am definitely one.
You’re in good company. :)
Well, I may be a bigot. That is for someone else to determine but I know that I am not homophobic.....I’m simply disgusted with the perverts.
No.
It means that I recognize that there is a strong biological basis for the institution of marriage, an imperative so strong that it precipitated volumes of law protecting it in every culture.
There is a reason for that biological imperative. It reflects the drive of the human race to survive. The mother-father pair bond provides the best environment for the next generation to survive.
Whatever the propaganda portrays, the fact is that homosexuals are mentally ill and incapable of forming those pair bonds. The homosexual lifestyle is not one that naturally produces children, nor is it one that nurtures or even has room for them. Homosexuals already have the right to live however they choose. No one is actually trying to stop that. There is no need for them to try to destroy the institution of marriage.
I like the way they try to compare homosexual marriage with black civil rights. A person doesn’t get to choose their race but they do get to pick a deviant lifestyle. Leave it to the government to promote an unhealthy lifestyle that is caused by perversion or a mental disorder.
