NJ Mother Pressured to Turn Over Her Guns...After Reading the Constitution at Tax Dispute Assembly
The Blaze ^ | 3/12/13 | Erica Ritz

A New Jersey mother was arrested and told to turn over her guns after reading the Constitution and peacefully protesting at a tax dispute forum, she says.

Eileen Hart was with her husband Keith and her 7-year-old daughter on Saturday at the Gloucester Community Center to dispute a mandatory home re-evaluation that would roughly double her property value (and therefore dramatically increase her rates), objecting on multiple grounds. As an Orthodox Jew, she refused to have the inspectors in her home when her husband was away at work. As an American citizen, she objected to the seemingly arbitrary reappraisal, noting that she is not planning on selling her home and hasn’t renovated her kitchen in 30 years.

That is the collection you lost in a boating mishap?

It was when the truck fell through thin ice on a deep lake.

That is sad. Sorry for the tragic loss of the collection you once had.

At least when ‘Tony Soprano ‘ran’ North Jersey’, one knew who to look out for.

Avoid Construction sites, known drop areas and the ‘Bada’, chances are you wouldn’t ‘run into them’.

This lady would have stood a better chance complaining about the cannoli from “Tony And Carmella’s Bakery” than to face her (so called) elected officials.

"Provided she actually DID make those threats. You know how to tell if a government official is lying? Watch their lips. If their lips move they're lying."

How would they know she had any guns unless she told them about it? Or why would they care? Or even suspect that a random South Jersey Orthodox Jewish housewife had a couple of guns?

This is New Jersey, which has the lowest prevalence of legal gun ownership of any state except for Hawaii. Firearm registration is not required in the state -- notwithstanding the pile of other draconian NJ gun laws.

I trust politicians and gov't officials about as much as I trust any pathological liars, but I doubt they went to her house to confiscate her guns just because she read the Constitution.

politicians observe any opposition as an attack on them PERSONALLY.

how many politicians have lied about the “antagonism” of protesters.

Democrats would label Ghandi as violent.

Sooth, not to big a stretch to assume that one well versed in the constitution would also be well versed in the bill of rights. And as such, would be a safe assumption that said person would be apt to enjoy their 2nd amendment right. Besides, the quickest and most likely way to get someone “detained” is to claim they made a threat involving a firearm. Probably in the liberal elected/un-elected official handbook when someone of that ilk assumes office.

"That is the collection you lost in a boating mishap?"

The first time I read someone post a similar sentiment, I got all worried for him/her and asked what the accident was.

Me: naive and unschooled re: boating mishaps!

I finally "got it". How embarrassing my first questions re: boating mishap!

Gun registration. I think you have to file paperwork with the local government in NJ like in NY, IL, and MA to purchase a handgun, but not completely sure about this.

Looks to me as if it started because she wouldn’t allow them in her home at their convenience and they didn’t like her attitude.

So, they retaliated and doubled her assessment. Which logically seems would double her taxes. We’ll teach you to talk back to your betters!

No matter what happened at the meeting, one has to wonder if anyone who witnessed it will have the courage to testify on her behalf, and put themselves at risk of similar intimidation. Regardless of exactly how it went down at the meeting, there is intimidation on the part of the officials.

The charge of “terroristic threats” is a catch all charge for use on anyone you want to lock up with minimal or no proof.

A few decades ago courts would have sneered at the police for most of the current instances of people being charged with this. Not now, because we live in a thinly disguised police state.

Here’s a thought as to the legality of confiscating legally owned guns from her home even if she did make the claimed threat. I tell commie councilman Bill Smith that if I ever see him crossing the street when I am driving on it I will run over him. Legally, the cops can’t confiscate my car. What they can do is institute a restraining order instructing me to never get within xx feet of Bill Smith.

If applied consistently, the BS terror threat law would have put hundreds, maybe thousands of people in jail for threatening various Republican officials over the few years. Has that happened? Again, is it Constitutional to lock up people for their supposed “intentions”? Liberals openly threaten conservatives with violence all the time in public forums. I don’t see any of them getting charged with crimes.

Who gets charged with “terroristic threats” if the recipient of the [imagined] threat is NOT a liberal? I’m waiting for that long list.

She can be accused of anything, that is the problem with BIG government. She is otherwise an average citizen, never been in trouble, and suddenly she takes her husband and small child with gun to make threats at an assembly? I don’t think so.

..........got your story beat! I was subjected to three jury trials costing me well over $25,000 for a bldg code violation. In Austin, they have criminalized the bldg code violations so that they come after you in criminal court. You see, they have created their own Environmental Court with their own cops complete with guns and badges. The difference? If you don’t physically show up, they arrest you and throw you in jail. So, no way to ignore them. Penalties in my case could have been hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Anyway, they lost all 3 jury trials even with liberal Austin jurors! They finally gave up. Government everywhere has just gone wild. It’s as simple as that.

Firearm registration is not required in the state -- notwithstanding the pile of other draconian NJ gun laws.

The permit to purchase requirement has the same net effect as registration; it gives them a heads up as to who might have firearms. And carry permits among the unconnected are as rare as hen's teeth.

A "loser pays" system would be useful in cases like yours. They'd be less likely to file baseless or shaky charges if they had to explain their abuse of public money to do so.

How did they know she had guns? According to this other source, http://www.examiner.com/article/n-j-mother-arrested-guns-confiscated-by-attending-property-tax-dispute-forum , they ran a background check. They didn’t know she had any guns until then.

Oh, and they didn’t go to her house to confiscate here guns. They went there to intimidate her and shut her up. When that didn’t work, they brought her in for questioning. When that didn’t work, they arrested her, charging her with the crime of arguing with government officials. When that didn’t work, they ran a background check and used what they found against her. They confiscated her firearms. She still hasn’t shut up. I wonder how far they will go.
