For decades I have heard gun owners claim that the government would never be able to confiscate our firearms because the government would lose too many men. The implication being, of course, that gun owners would actively resist confiscation, even to the point of shooting back. But I believe this thinking is outdated and doesnt align very well with reality. But before you tell me how big your honor guard in Hell will be when that day comes, lets think about how the government could really do it.
Suppose, for the sake of argument, the government bans all civilian possession of firearms at the end of this month. Congress passes a total ban and the President cuts his own re-election throat by signing it. Gun owners get some grace period to turn them in, even beyond the deadline, without being charged with a crime. If we use Australia and Britain as examples there will still be a significant number of firearms that are not turned in. Some estimates put the Australian turn-in at less than 25% and the British faired only about 28%. But Australians and the British have long been used to obeying almost every gun control law. Not so the Americans. When laws are passed that we dont like, we bite. We scratch. We vote. So here we sit after the guns have been collected and the amnesties have run out. Now what? Send out the personnel carriers, swat and shock troops to seize the guns from those militia terrorists who refused to turn them in? Dont be silly.
The government has lots of records about you. If you purchased a firearm since 1968, chances are that they have some record of it somewhere....

I’ve thought about how they would go about it, and that is the scenerio I envision.
So when they do show up, I’m going to tell them that just yesterday I gave them to that nice man with a badge that told me he was from the sherriffs office to collect my guns. I handed them over and signed a piece of paper, which he promised to copy and mail back to me as proof.
That ought to keep them busy for a couple of days.
dittos bump
Well, there is this funny thing called the Second Amendment, it is found in this moldy old document called "The Constitution" I believe. You think ObamaCare had challenges?
You ain't seen nothing yet.
And just where are they going to get these people to come and take you guns?
We have a tradition of shooting at people who come to take our stuff. If every fifth person that they march up to and try to take their guns gets just one po-lice officer then they are going to run out of bodies very fast.
Lots of Sheriffs have already said that the feds can go pee up a rope. So are they going to call out the national guard? That would require the governors to get involved.
on craigslist rant n rave section the sheriff here is asking people to turn in anyone who they believe has an illegal firearm. i was speechless to see ad after ad asking citizens to turn over their neighbors for various infractios. in some cases they are offering rewards. and this is a conservative county.
I suspect that Obama, Pelosi, Reid, and many city police chiefs are far more worried about free Americans (like you, but in liberal states and cities) than they are about real criminals. They will come for us if we give them the chance, if we don't stop them at the ballot box or otherwise first. As for real criminals, they will still get a free pass if they fit the liberal demographic.
We also have a hell of a lot of money behind us, since we know "you get all the justice you can afford." Any attempt to confiscate Constitutionally-protected arms will lead to big changes in the political landscape.
I saw an interesting t-shirt the other day:
“When all else fails, vote from the rooftops”
See post #44.
“When all else fails, vote from the rooftops”
I like that...
Nope. They don’t win this one. They might could have done that 20 years ago, the people pretty much did as the media wanted. Our biggest weapon has been the internet, and if they tried to silence it now, they would be eaten by their own.
LOL There are so many ways to deal with it you couldn’t count them. Has anybody tried crunching the numbers on the costs of confiscating guns from 110 million gun owners? Minimum 9 man team for each house call. I don’t have the data to plug into the calculation but I don’t think I need it to to see the astronomical heights that budget would reach.
The most important thing is to get organized. Be able to assure that "they" don't go home at the end of the shift. Or if they do, there's an ambush waiting for them. Likewise the politicians who ultimately give the orders.
Guns...what guns?
Americans tend to tell you where you can go and how you can get there.
That tactic is ripe for a setup. Think IEH. Improvised explosive house. Not that I recommend that.
A few vacated houses turned into IED’s will fix that.
GREAT ideas! You guys are giving me hope ;P
>>fled the country<<
Huh? Are you kidding? This is our country and worth fighting for.
