Some great points here.
I also remember when I was a kid in the 1970’s, CBS always ran “In The News” on Saturdays and when it came time to change the clocks forward or back, they always ran the segment explaining what it is and so on. I remember during the 1973 oil embargo, we went DST all year round and a lot of parents complained that we were walking to school/bus stop in the dark. I was in first grade then and we all took flashlights and it was kind of fun playing “German Spotlight” while waiting for the bus. B-)
Interesting video, Borges.
Still, I wish we could just split the difference by half an hour and leave it alone. Time changing’s a hassle.
Stupid idea. I hate it and don’t understand the reason. Why don’t we just move the clock 1/2 hour and then don’t change it the whole year.
Just tell my dogs that they have to wait for their breakfast because it is fall!! And it takes me 2-3 days to syncronize all my clocks to the new time. I have some that change to the old schedule and I have to change 4 times a year.
And again I have to take pills for 2 weeks to get my body to adjust to the new wake up time.

There is no “s”.
It’s Daylight Saving Time.
Better still: Leave. The. Clocks. Alone. We do that in AZ. Made me glad to find that out when I moved here.
The smart move is just to leave it alone. Don’t split anything, shoot DST in the head and leave the clock alone.
Just think of the effect this has had on globull warming............ all these extra hours of daylight every year.
I understand the criticisms here, but I love coming home from work in the summer and having an extra hour of daylight to grill or work in the yard..
I lived in Indiana for 18 years and they didn’t change the time there while we lived in IN. I now live in Florida and must start a grass roots movement to stop the insanity.
They either need to pick Standard Time (my preference) or DST and leave the clocks there.
Standard. There is a reason it’s called “Standard.” As it is, we’re on Standard less than half the year, and I blame Bush.
In Russia, they moved the clock forward one hour in the spring and have kept it there permanently.
I think we should pick one time and stick with it year around. DST is not observed at the equator because the hours of sunlight don’t vary much to justify a change.
AZ and HI don’t make the change because the extra hour of heat in a desert and subtropical climate isn’t worth it.
For those of us observing DST, the familiar jingle always helps - “spring forward, fall back.”
How far do we spring backwards? I forget.
Is this like a time machine?
Does this mean I’ll be repeating stuff I’ve already done? If so, I may want to modify my behavior.
The further north you move, the longer daylight lasts. North of the Arctic Circle, the sun never sets in the summer and you have the sun shining even at midnight.
July in N Tx: the time approaches 9pm and it's still 95 degrees and very humid heading for a sultry low of 80, while there remains some lifeforce-draining sunlight roasting our world, we don't often don't find ourselves relishing longer days. It's just not right.
