Didn't know the Marines had to take the bolts out of their rifles for the Inaugural, an email forwarded to Gun Rights Examiner from a United States Marine Corps source observed. Wonder if someone can explain why [they] would be marching in the inaugural parade with no bolts in their rifles!
The email linked to a YouTube video of the 57th Presidential Inaugural Parade, embedded in this column, featuring Bravo Company Marines from the Marine Barracks Washington. Sure enough, the observation in the email is confirmed by watching the video, with screen shots provided in the photo and slide show accompanying this article.
The few, the proud, the ... untrusted?

I think it started way before then. In 1966, I was in ROTC at the University of Delaware. The drill team, the Delaware Rifles, had marched in an earlier inaugural parade. As I recall, they had to remove the bolts from their ‘03 Springfields.
I prefer our Marines to be handing out cans of whoop ass instead.
Yes, I know, I know. The military is not to be used to kill and break things. I will shut up.
Maybe the Marines have a few muslims in their ranks!
Could be, the pictures aren’t very good. But it’s definately an M1 - you can see the two metal clips that separate the upper hand guard and the rear hand guard.
George Bush Sr had us take the bolts out of our rifles too....this isn’t new.
so they can’t frak their commander.
One word: Sadat.
No bolts? No nuts.
Way back when, while I was in Boot, our M-14 rifles lacked firing pin, and therefore could not be fired. Pins were installed by the armorers at Camp Pendleton when we went there for Phase II Marksmanship training. When we finished the course at Edson Range the firing pins were again removed and we returned to Boot in San Deigo with our non firing rifles.
The Marine at 8th & I are wekk aware of that method of disabling a rifle..... seems like they delibertely had their Marines remove the bolts, when ordered to disable their rifles so all could see Obama’s paranoia.......
lolololol Obama just got pwned big time. Fool!
I think you’re right - the rifles could have been disabled without it being glaringly obvious with that gaping hole where the bolt should be.
Quick question: Why are the Marines carrying Garands, anyway? I thought the M-14 was the ceremonial rifle, like at Arlington, and those rifles are NOT disabled.
Not the first time the Marines gave their own back to POTUS. Remember whenever the draft dodger Clinton exited Marine One, the guard saluted but failed to execute the right face in order to watch the CoC’s back until out of sight. A military eye would have spotted this, but none were in the WH staff. Clinton was silently insulted by the Marine Corps all those years & never realized it.
Anyway, what kind of comment is it about our current POTUS that he doesn’t trust the citizenry with guns & doesn’t even trust his own military with guns? And we commoners are supposed to trust the police with guns, while being exhorted to give up our own?
Did GWB ever appear among his soldiers with their weapons disabled? I’m not aware of it.
Full stock manual of arms made easier, plus all the other stuff the 8th & I Marines do ... Silent Drill Team for instance.
Thanks for the post.
As far as I know it’s not uncommon for drill teams or units that parade often to have disabled weapons set aside for the parades. USMA has had M14s without firing pins for parades for a long time.
Maybe not.
Why would they protect a usurper? With a disabled rifle, they are abiding by their oath.
It is bozo himself who leaves himself open to anything.
That's how I view this.
Thanks for easing the tension. I love hearing about them since mine doesn’t want his mom to know what he does when he is having fun. One thing I did notice is that whenever he calls he is always talking to someone else at the same time. They must talk 24/7! I bet they talk in their sleep, too.
Things really have changed. While I was stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Tustin CA in 1968, I was one of several Marines detailed to protect LBJ as he saw off a Marine contingent heading for Vietnam to bolster forces after Tet. I was armed with an M14 and a bandoleer of ammunition and stationed on a rooftop overseeing the crowd to prevent any attacks by violent anti war demonstrators. Nothing happened but it was interesting that LBJ trusted us completely -as it should be.

The Air Force Base I worked at for many, many years as a contractor started a policy that when Air Force One flew in we were not permitted to go outside or to watch it land from a window. If I remember correctly that policy started under Slick Willie.
It really telegraphs their fear and loathing of American citizens when they do stuff like that. Just wait until we aren’t permitted to gather in groups larger than four or five in public.
