President Obama recently proved that he shoots skeet, and now Piers Morgan can say he’s shot an AR-15. Morgan traveled to Texas today to find out what it’s like to shoot the gun “used in the last five mass shootings in America,” including Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Morgan interviewed the owner of a Houston gun range, as he took his turns firing various version of the AR-15 semi-automatic rifle with a 30-round magazine. His aim wasn’t perfect, but as Morgan said, “once I got the hang of it and began pressing the trigger faster and faster, it was just firing very, very fast.”
He proceeded to shoot an AR-15 that had been modified from semi-automatic to fully automatic, a procedure that is illegal, but as the range owner explained, fairly easy for individuals to do with parts that can be purchased legally. Morgan said it felt “unbelievably powerful.”(continued)

I recall a DI at the gun range in the late 60’s putting an M16 on his chin to show that the recoil of the new technology had been greatly reduced.
I attended a private boarding school in eastern PA, and our habitual practice for Sunday mornings was to skip out and roam the countryside. In one of these sojourns, we came across a couple of old guys at some kind of home made firing range, and they had a WWI vintage Springfield, as I remember it. We watched them fire it, and what impressed me was that it sounded like a cannon more than a gun. Just a huge noise. Boy, those were the days, eh?
When are we gonna stop treating people like piers with respect? He is NOT there to learn or debate. He is there to create and spread propaganda. This is what frustrates me with the current group of conservative talking heads and twitter nuts: they don’t recognize the Alinsky style tactics by piers and his ilk, and by now they should! Brietbart understood them and could hear the dog whistle, and so many still can’t. Example: on ALL of the interviews he as done since Sandy Hook, piers keeps saying “Who needs a weapon that can fire a hundred rounds in a minute? Who needs an AR-15?” Notice that he REPEATS this constantly, never accepting a logical answer or addressing the guests’ response. He doesn’t care about logic or rationale; he knows that if he keeps repeating a catchy phrase, THAT is what will stick in peoples’ minds, not the logical answer. Quit playing his game conservatives.
Why do FReepers persist in this outright lie. It makes us look stupid. The gun left in the trunk was a shotgun. Medical examiner confirmed all victims shot with the bushmaster. The only time the guy fired his handgun was when he shot himself.
Even so, the AR15 is not an extraordinary powerful firearm. All this BS is simply put out there to fool the brain dead masses.
BTW, Bozo did not prove he shoots skeet. The photo released was obviously photo shopped, it is in an area that is nowhere near the skeet range at Camp David.

No. The murders were done with the .223, the suicide with one of the handguns. What was seen being removed from the trunk was (IIRC) a Saiga shotgun.

I had the opportunity to put a few rounds through a Garand once many years ago. Outstanding weapon - solid, efficient, dangerous. Still, my all time favorite has to the the old L1A1 SLR (Self Loading Rifle). Otherwise known to non Brits/Aussies as the FN FAL. Hold her just right, or she will punish you. Saw a recruit get a black eye once from the rear sight because she didn’t pull the stock into her shoulder. I like to see Piers fire 20 rounds rapid from the standing position with one of them.

To do that is a big time Federal Offence that will put you ass in jail for many years. In effect Piers Morgan is asking us to believe that the owner of a gun range supplied and let him shoot a modified and illegal weapon knowing that he is a journalist that would print and talk about the use of an illegal weapon!!!!!!!

Why not make the pansyass shoot something that actually is powerful, like a .458 Winchester or a .460 Weatherby. Put him at a bench rest with a couple of boxes of 500 grain FMJ cartridges for a morning of pleasure. Make sure he pays for the ammo. LOL!
Of course he will report the AR-15 is fully automatic, sprays bullets at thousands of rounds per minute and is more powerful than a bazooka.

Why don’t you try my 30-06 Remington 770, Bolt Action. Hell, I’d give it to you. I hate the damn thing. Hurts my shoulder and because I start anticipating pain, after about 25 rounds, my shots go from dead on to all parts of the universe.
Oh, and I’ll keep the scope. You ain’t gonna need a Leupold MK IV and I’m gonna need it for my new Remington 738.
It is not easy, unless you are a machinist and have the tools and parts needed to do it. The receivers on civilian AR-15 lower receivers would have to be milled to accept the sear. It is my understanding that the fire control group parts and the sear needed for the conversion to full auto are restricted and not available to your average person. I believe the full auto bolt carrier is also restricted but I am not sure about that. I ran a small arms repair shop in the Army for a few years and have looked at what it would take. It is beyond my skill level to do.
It can be done. Generally, those types of modifications make the weapon unsafe, unreliable, and fairly inaccurate.
Not easy for average Joe’s to do such .... Correct.
