President Barack Obama signed a bill into law on Thursday guaranteeing himself Secret Service protection for the rest of his life.
White House press secretary Jay Carney said Obama signed the Former Presidents Protection Act of 2012 on Thursday. The law affects Obama, former President George W. Bush and future presidents, who under current law would only be protected for 10 years after leaving office.
According to the press secretarys office, the law restores lifetime Secret Service protection of former Presidents who did not serve as President prior to January 1, 1997, and their spouses; and provides for protection of all children of former Presidents until they become 16 years of age.
Republican South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy introduced the bill in the House.

That would make me feel a little better. I really like him. I would be sooo disappointed if he didn’t.

The Clinton's have lifetime protection. Clinton signed a law during his term to limit SS protection on all future Presidents to 10 years after they leave office and now Obama has signed a new law overriding that.
No Former President needs lifetime protection and yet here we are again.
I note here that Former President Nixon was the exception, he asked that he not have SS protection after he left office and paid for his own bodyguard.
All these guys make enough money to provide for themselves, not surprised that Obama would want lifetime servants for himself and his family.

Better check the capacity of the mags those SS guys have in their sidearms and get rid of the scary assault rifles in their cars.

This is why Republicans are known as the stupid Party. Boehner should of held this legislation in his back pocket and submitted it in any and all toxic (To the Dems) Bills in which the Dems hate. Like spending cuts/freezes or debt ceilings, etc...

Not only lifetime protection, but free real estate as well. You see, Obama’s rent fee to all the SS protecting him will be more than what his mortgage will be. Free lifetime housing/huge amount of COLA, FTW.

Maybe he doesn't think he will need "former Presidents' protection" because he doesn't intend to become a "former President."
If President-for-Life is good enough for Tito, Castro, Mugabe, and Chavez, why not for Obama? None of the others won the Nobel Peace Prize, for starters.
