Is Fukushima radiation killing Americans?

I'll bet no one else around here owns a calibrated radiation survey meter!

I have posted this before, but it's worth repeating. A few months after the Fukushima meltdown, I took my survey meter to the grocery store. California veggies...fine. Fish display...fine. Canned tuna shelves....UH OH. I measured .05 rad/hour. That's over one rad/day.

Since the tuna was in cans, the alpha and beta particles would not be detected, IIRC. If I remember my particle physics, my meter must have been detecting gammas or neutrons.

If someone ingests the radioactive particles in the tuna, they will be irradiated from the inside by alphas, betas, etc.

From that moment on, I resolved that I will not eat seafood unless I KNOW that it came from the Gulf of Mexico. Preferably, I will only eat what I catch or see come off the boat.

Given the influence of extreme environazis in government and media who want to reduce human population, I would not be surprised if this danger is purposely being covered up.

Who knew my profound distaste for tuna might one day save my life.

While the glowing Tuna is not good, I worry a lot more about the bread that can sit in a drawer or on a counter for over a month and still make an almost tasty sammich.

Seriously. Try it. While not ‘fresh’ by any means, it’s still completely edible.

And just what are preservatives that can do that doing to your guts?

So how much were we getting back when I was a kid and the US, Russia, and China were setting off atmospheric nuke blasts?

The radioactive material could also be in the steel of the can.

You can't ask that question here. That makes you anti-business; believe me, I've been there.

Where did you get your meter and how much did it cost? What brand is it?I have wanted to monitor radiation for decades. Thanks for the info.

I remember a time in the 1970’s when my mother refused to serve us fresh milk (just the horrible Carnation instant stuff) because the ChiComs had set off an atmospheric test which was producing radioactive isotopes in milk.

Fine by me. In the last 6 months that’s about the only thing one Freeper (in name only) or another HASEN’T called me.

So I may as well complete the whole set ;)

Very true. About 20 yrs. ago a bunch of steel café tables had to be recalled because they were emitting high doses. Turns out they were Made in Mexico from scrap that included a source isotope from a medical x-ray machine. A delivery of these to the cafeteria actually triggered the alarms at Los Alamos.

Nancy Pelosi’s connection to that industry was my first thought.

I was watching some cooking show last Summer, "America's Test Kitchen" perhaps.

In the taste-tasting of some lemon juice products, "the all natural/no preservatives" brand fared the worst, which led to the comment that perhaps there is a reason why preservatives are used by all the other brands.
