I especially enjoyed the yodelling duet with Julie Andrews and Maria Von Trapp (near the 2 minute mark)

Who knew the real Maria could sing?!

With my dial-up connection I can’t watch the video but I did just get through watching “The Sound of Music”.

Our class song for the Class of 65 was “Climb Every Mountain”
Edelweiss is my one of my favorite songs period. I guess it was written by Rogers or Hammerstein or maybe both.

“Edelweiss” was the last song Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, II would collaborate on. Hammerstein would die shortly afterwards.

Thanks for that info. Is is such a short simple song but something about it really touches me.

My late wife had a beautiful voice and she would sing it for me without music.

Ping to watch this later. My friend read Maria Von Trapp’s memoirs, that I guess, maybe the movie was based on.

I’m pretty sure they took a bunch of liberties with the story, but my impression from my friend is that it is in spirit true.

But I’m guessing the whole DO-A-Deer bit was made up.

However, judging from Sound of Music and Gone with the Wind, you can make some gosh darn fine clothes out of draperies!

Edelweiss is my one of my favorite songs period.

I like this version:

Edelweiss--Friedrich Ahlers with Wind Orchestra and Chorus (1939, 1951)

I love musicals, I loved this one. Is there anyone that can write music like this anymore?

Classic. Thanks for posting. My dad and mom were watching “The Sound of Music” on ABC tonight so I’m sure they would like this.

It is an understatement to say they took some liberties... they took a LOT. The real story would not likely have been as endearing. Baron von Trapp was a much older man, for instance. Maria was a much different personality. Indeed, it was the Baron who was fun loving and warm and she was a battle axe. I recall one anecdote that she locked up one of the daughters to keep her away from a boyfriend.

When there was a screening for the family for the film, the reported reaction was that they were literally rolling in the aisles with laughter because it was nothing like the reality. There was also no rollicking escape from the Nazis as described. They merely went down to the train station and left the country.

you’ve read up on everything.

Green Bay shellacked Tennessee today, 55-7. TN is favored next week.

I don’t follow the badminton.

I wonder what I do all day on Sundays in October when I boycott the badminton? And what do other people do on days like today when it is badminton all day? I'll find out in a few weeks when there are only 2 games.

Of course she could sing. The movie was based on a book she wrote about her life. (A big clue would have been that Julie Andrews plays the role of a singing nun named Maria who goes to take care of the von Trapp children and teaches them ...to sing.)
