Maintaining that laws banning guns are ineffective at deterring criminals, National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre urged that we harden potential targets. The placement of trained and armed security guards in vulnerable locations would be a more potent defensive measure than the placement of signs declaring these locations gun-free zones.
LaPierre pointed out that Connecticuts law banning assault weapons had no impact on the madman who killed 20 school children. Government officials themselves dont place their trust in gun control laws. The President has armed guards to protect him. Many members of Congress have concealed carry permits. They put their trust in self defense. Why shouldnt our children have a similar protection?
Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) called LaPierres plan reckless. How can more guns be the answer? What if the armed security guard turns out to be a madman? The NRA proposal would, in effect, allow armed lunatics to infiltrate our schools and be perfectly placed to carry out their evil agendas.
In further support of his position, the Senator reminded that the DOJs plan to arm the Mexican drug cartels should have dispelled all illusions that simply increasing the number of guns would be a good strategy. Many of those guns have been used to murder hundreds of people.
Representative Jim Himes (D-Conn) went even further saying that those who use the Second Amendment to block the government from confiscating all unauthorized firearms have blood on their hands. There is no question in my mind that public safety requires the elimination of all privately owned guns. Laws making it illegal for private citizens to own guns would greatly simplify law enforcement.
Himes pooh-poohed the notion that an armed citizenry might be a barrier to tyranny. First of all, we have free elections, so tyranny is not a realistic possibility in America, Himes insisted. Even if it were, does anyone doubt that the firepower the government could muster would easily outgun civilian resistance? In a worst case scenario, I think most would agree that the potential risk of government oppression with gun control is preferable to the proven risk of random violence when the general population is allowed to have weapons.

Somebody needs to wrap the old mummy Lautenberg up. He’s starting to stink again.
I think Wayne La Pierre’s idea of cops in the schools is a lot better allowing teachers to be armed.
Think about all of those teacher’s union rioters in Wisconson and Michigan. do you want them to have firearms?
I think I would rather arm the local county inmates.
We should all home school. It would cure many of our societal ills.
Fewer drugs.
Less teen sex.
Fewer shootings.
Higher grades.
Better reading and math scores.
More parent-child time.
No teachers’ unions.
No taxes for Stalin-era school models made for mass indoctrination.
On the news here in San Diego..they had a report on new efforts by the police to give better response and coverage to the schools.
So far the NRA has made the only suggestion that would really be effective..not 100% but much better than any kind of gun control.
I absolutely agree. Someone just posted a pic to my facebook of the Obama’s walk during the first inauguration. It had red text added that pointed to all the guns the SS were carrying. The text was very simple - “Gun” and and arrow. Amazing how many there were. I wish I could find it again to share with all of you.
So...let me see if I understand this.
Anyone with a gun in their hands is a madman?
My how this country has changed. This could fracture the country beyond repair.
Satire, I fell for it.
Doing three penalty laps as penance. :(
I’m sure New Jersey already has police school resource officers in place.
When they disarm the government, we can have a conversation on the subject.
If they "just" posted it, how could you not find it?
I thought you were going to say senator mccain ;-)
School districts across this land have armed officers driving around in high dollar police cars looking for school skippers so that they can haul them in and then fine the parents for truancy.
Simply take away their car$$$ and put their butts in the schools. Net monetary gain! Safer schools!
This Satire is way too close to the truth!
Not with me.
I’m finally maturing or Semmens isn’t a subtle as he used to be. I figured this one out right away. I remember the many times I would get Semmens’d. It was a humbling experience. Maybe no longer.
Sad.
I was under the assumption that most large urban schools already had armed security, usually cops.
