An anti-gun owner initiative considered in Washington could lead to massive civil disobedience and a severe domestic crisis, gun law expert John M. Snyder warned on Friday.
"According to confidential information," he said, "forces linked with the administration suggest the government classify semiautomatic firearms and multiple capacity ammunition feeding devices as Title 2 National Firearms Act items under the Gun Control Act of 1968.
Americans familiar with federal gun laws understand that under this scenario, semiautomatics and high capacity magazines could be acquired only with great difficulty and at great expense by America's estimated 100 million law-abiding firearms owners, notes Snyder.
According to Snyder and other gun ownership advocates, the Obama administration long ago realized it would have insurmountable difficulty getting a semiautomatic gun ban, such as that considered by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and others, passed Congress, especially when the House is controlled by defenders of the Second Amendment.
Congressional Second Amendment supporters already are preparing for such a battle. During the Clinton years, Congress enacted a partial, temporary semiautomatic ban but allowed it to sunset after 10 years because of its lack of significant negative impact on crime, according to surveys conducted by the National Association of Chiefs of Police.
The Obama administration, now safely reelected, may order the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to take the classification step. Some gun-grabbers view the designation of Street Sweeper shotguns as Title 2 firearms during the Clinton administration as precedent for such a move.

This would be a tremendously unpopular move, both among Republicans and Democrats. It would be extremely ill-advised, and lead to massive civil disobedience and widespread non-compliance, with expensive and time consuming headaches in enforcement.
Somehow I can’t see it happening.
I agree. I tell everyone in my extended family and circle of friends to start stocking up ammo if they haven’t already. People should also plan on buying firearms that are duplicates of what they already have for parts and also perhaps buy additional units to BURY for future generations or in case the government ultimately goes total Hitlarian(It’s already in low gear and has let the clutch out).
Don’t you mean that revolvers and single shots are all that would be legal? :P
I don’t really see many, ...or hardly any, owners of everything from Ruger 10/22, to handguns, shotguns, to AR-15s turning their guns in or paying a confiscatory tax on them. We are talking about tens of millions of people, with literally hundreds of millions of guns.
That would also change and betray the ‘gun friendly’ image that Obama has shown us up to this point, causing countless pro-gun liberals to admit they were wrong about Obama’s intentions.. Obama will be hated like never before, by tens of millions more.
I see large numbers of people just ignoring/playing ignorant of any new interpretation of the 1968 law. And because of the sheer numbers involved I believe it would be unenforceable, making a hundred million people criminals.
This will only serve to make Obama look like the partisan Marxist extremist that he is, and I am not sure he wants to drop his mask. It would be political suicide.

Since you bring it up, actually I can see it happening expressly for the reason it would cause massive civil disobedience nationally. The scenarios are near endless mind you, but the end result is clear: You want peace in the streets? Then the President needs to be a dictator to have the power to stop all of the rioting, looting, etc...
What I think though that our politicians and President Obama have forgotten is one crucial thing.... They receive their massive power and funding from the “consent of the governed”. Take away that consent and they are nothing but the the thugs and barbarians inside the the gates.
In fact, this move could motivate the first bi-partisan congressional move to repeal or modify the 1968 law to counter this. Or defund and or disband the ATF. I can’t imagine congress being overly thrilled about being circumnavigated like this.
Nothing good will come of it for Obama.

Obama would in the end have to enforce it like Stalin.
I remain confident that even that scenario would not end well for Obama.

Oh there`ll be lots of bitching, for sure. A few conservatives will put on their best game face and complain about it on Hannity`s show. It`ll get some air play on talk radio..
All until the next manufactured “crisis” unfolds to conveniently take everyone`s minds away from the subject. Then, the only remaining consistent voices will be the NRA, who will then be marginalized as racist, violent clingers.

True, and the media has convinced the ignorant that the peasant/sportsman does not need weapons of such mass destruction.
A double action .22 revolver is semiautomatic, even if it's loaded with short rounds, making it slighly less deadly than an air rifle.
Come to think of it, if the air rifle uses those little gas cartridges for propellant, it's probably semiautomatic, as well.
