FULTON, Miss. - The talk these days on many social media web sites like Facebook is a petition to secede from the United States and for states to peacefully create their own government.
We found many people who had signed the Mississippi petition like Brandy T from Saltillo, Irv C from Philadelphia and Michael A from Southaven.
Itawamba Community College Chairman of the Social Science Division Dean Burchfield said, "I think it's a movement of people who want to say they're not happy with the government."
The instructor of history doesn't put much stock in the online effort.
Burchfield said, "If a state wanted to secede, it would be more than just signature petitions. It would have to come from state leaders and people who would organize like conventions or whatever. But I don't see any state seceding."
The movement has gained the attention of some in the national media, enough for stories to be done.

I’ve got it!
All 50 states can secede from Washington DC.
The media is scoffing at these petitions. One ABC report mentioned a counter petition that demands signers of the succession petitions be deported.
to have been written ...
What about the other 7 states?
Well, seven out of Obama's 57 states have apparently already seceded because I can't find them anywhere.
Personally, I’ve always been pretty irritated that NY, CA, MA, and VT have a say in our national government.
Why should we leave they’re the ones who need to get the hell out!
Apparently that History teacher doesn’t know his subject all that well. It wasn’t secession that caused all the pain that resulted from the Civil War. It was Lincoln’s unconstitutional response, attacking those southern states that expressed a desire to be free of that national government whose constitutional responsibility was to ensure they had that right.
The other three candidates were more of the “erring sisters, depart in peace” attitude, IIRC.
Well said and true.
You should rub some preparation-H on that.
I think that the point is being made that there are a lot of folks that are rather unhappy with the direction that things are going.
If secession will not work, how about expulsion? Let’s expel California, New York, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Maryland, Washington, DC, Hawaii, Delaware, Maine, Rhode Island, and Vermont. If we got rid of the extreme left fringe of our country, we could follow the Constitution and restore the rule of law. I don’t see a down side - they would have the socialism they want, and we would have the freedom that we want.
History repeats itself. Look what Reagan did to the USSR, after the collapse they fragmented. That will happen in the USA when we too collapse. The red will seperate and become oil exporters like in the USSR.
Let those states that wish to leave secede from the United States
