Apparently that History teacher doesn’t know his subject all that well. It wasn’t secession that caused all the pain that resulted from the Civil War. It was Lincoln’s unconstitutional response, attacking those southern states that expressed a desire to be free of that national government whose constitutional responsibility was to ensure they had that right.

I’m with you- what was so holy about “The Union” that it had to be preserved at the cost of thousands of lives?
What if the north had tried to get the south try to do something other than abolish slavery, like oh..say.. force them to buy health insurance ?
