“Detroit is America’s most violent city” “Detroit’s homicide rate is the highest in the country” “Detroit’s Police Department is grossly understaffed” these are the opening lines of a warning from the Motor City’s Police Union advising people that for their own safety they should stay away from Detroit.
The declaration goes on to say that DPD officers are required to work 12 hour shifts, TWELEVE HOUR SHIFTS!
Imagine how exhausting it would be to work at ANY job for 12 straight hours, finish up and look forward to coming back ½ a day later for 12 more hours!
DPD cops are the lowest paid police officers of any big city in the country and make far less than many cops in surrounding towns. Working from street level the cops know that liberalism has destroyed one of America’s once great cities.
How did this happen?
Detroit is the crown jewel of liberalism’s tiara of failure. It has been run by Democrats for so long that few even remember the last time a Republican was mayor.
As far back as February 2010 Barack Obama entered into discussions with Detroit’s Mayor Dave Bing to facilitate the process of physically tearing down large sections of Detroit.
Democrats are prone to say a job is too big for one man when that one man is a Democrat. Haven’t we heard “He did better than anyone else could have” as an excuse for Obama’s failures?
The Democrats have admitted that fifty years of their rule has left Detroit flat on its back and gasping for air. Since the “wrecking ball” option was selected Democrats ….. devoured anything of value [ left in Detroit]..
But haven’t mustered the guts to start the actual process, they are just letting nature reclaim her territory.

I remember Chicago, SF, Detroit, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and a few other cities from back in the 50s and very early-60s, and they were nice places to visit. They’re (mostly) sewers now, in comparison. 50-60yrs of lib-dem/union control has caused widespread ruination.
There is another reason why Detroit and every other urban center in this country has become a third world cesspit. But mentioning it is verboten. The occasional aberration of a Republican mayor is simply a temporary band aid over large and suppurating wound.

Apparently you don’t get out much. In many cases both parents work 10-12 hours per day. Why do you think America doesn’t hear much from conservatives? Because we’re working!
And this just in...
39% of Detroit residents say they plan to leave the city within the next 5 years.
Coyotes, bear, and deer have been seen roaming greenfields that used to be thriving neighborhoods.
Detroit is liberalism’s “epic fail” for all to see.
I’ll mention it. It’s called the black undertow. Thug black culture, birthed by the “Great Society” and of course the democrat party, is what has made all this possible.
There are always two common denominators in cities in decline.
One, of course, is first and foremost; Democrat party rule. The second , as in this case, is a feral thug culture that has zero interest in playing by the rules, or being productive. Until this can be honestly and openly debated, and the truth be told, all is lost. Atlana is next. Look at Gary, Indiana. There are many, many more. Care to guess which ethnic “group” is the majority?
We MUST begin to speak the truth on these issues. To hell with cries of “racism”. We ignore this at our peril.
I would add Little Falujah (Dearborn) in there with Detroit.

Maybe it’s just the churches I go to and the people I work with. Maybe it’s YOU that doesn’t get out much. ;-)
On the other hand, maybe we just hang out in different circles. Other than consulting, I have not had an “hourly” job since 1983. Nor were any of the people I worked with paid by the hour.
I went to a $2,300 COBOL computer course for 10 months in 1983. It got me out of retail sales and I never looked back.
Last factory I worked at, I did 12 hour days 7 days a week for 4 months. In the end it paid off because I made foreman in under 18 months.

I’ve done it and it can be done if you are on a straight shift. 10 hours is easier, but a 12 hour ROTATING SHIFT (a few days, then switch to nights for a few days, then back to days) is a real killer! 6AM to 6PM. Then 6PM to 6AM.
The worst straight shift, other than the rotating shift was a 12 midnight to noon shift.
I’m retired now and it took 6 months to catch up on 31 years of lost sleep.
Uh, union propaganda that can be summarized as follows: Give us more money and benefits. The End.

Of course you’re right.
Time and time and time again, here on FR we see the conservative mantra that “liberalism has destroyed the cities”.
I suggest anyone who actually believes this to go to the cities of Bennington and Burlington, Vermont. Both are full of people who are EXTREMELY liberal in attitudes, and who elect public officials who are, as well. These folks are literally “off-the-wall” liberals.
Yet both Bennington and Burlington are as safe or safer than the locales where most reading this post reside right now.
If you visit those places, there is something which will become immediately obvious to you, vis-a-vis cities like Detroit, Balitimore, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Chicago.
Can you ascertain what it is?
Sitting in a car, standing around “observing” or doing nothing or pushing a pen for a ticket do not constitute work in my books.
It’s the black undertow. We MUST begin to speak the truth about it. I don’t think anyone as of yet truly realizes the magnatude of this problem. In my opinion, it ranks in the top three major problems this country is going to have to deal with, sooner or later. The Supreme Court is working on an affirmative action(AA) case now. It would be a great start to get rid of that, (AA) then start moving right on down the line.
