Is there a way to win the hearts and minds of ObamaVoters?
Dan Miller's Blog ^ | October 3, 1012 | Dan Miller

If so, we need to find it very soon NOW. I am posting this before tonight's debate because I don't think that will cause much change for the better. I hope I am wrong.

An article at PJ Tatler on October 3d chastised those on the right who fault Governor Romney for not having done an adequate job of campaigning. It's well worth reading in its entirety but this summarizes it:

Mitt Romney is running the best campaign anyone could run under the circumstances.

The circumstances are as follows: the media will not report anything he does unless they think it can be used against him. They’re not in fact reporters, they are, pace Professor Reynolds “Democratic Operatives With Bylines.”

Hence, though Romney and Ryan are crisscrossing the nation, meeting with real citizens, you never hear about it. The media breathlessly cover Obama’s appearances and no it’s not because he’s president. They did the same thing in 08. But Romney and Ryan move in a cone of silence. The only time that cone of silence is broken is when the media thinks Romney has made a gaffe. And the fact that most of those are made up tells you he’s an excellent campaigner.

I agree. Suppose Governor Romney

took every possible step and then some to show that he is ten times more American, loveable, cuddly, kindly, empathetic and intelligent than President Obama, while simultaneously (with the vigorous support of ninety percent of the known economists in the country)

♥ laying out credible and specific plans to balance the budget and also giving multiple free cell phones and gasoline to everybody, subsidizing everyone's rent and paying off everyone's mortgages in the process and

[youtube http://www.youtube.com

/watch?v=aTYiKjFnMos?feature=player_detailpage]

Video link

♥ persuasively demonstrating how, during his first week in office, he will reduce the real unemployment rate to less than four percent while making all forms of welfare more available to everyone regardless of employment or immigration status and

♥ immediately bringing peace to the entire world without offending, killing or injuring anyone and

♥ doing every other wonderful thing imaginable but never, ever, doing anything to which anyone could reasonably object.

It would have no effect (except to irritate his conservative and moderately conservative base) if not covered, or if covered with a pro-Obama spin, by the "principled" media to which great masses of voters pay at least some attention. A tree falling in a forest with nobody there to hear it would more likely resonate worldwide.

This Wall Street Journal article asks why the story of the Obama Administration debacle in Libya "won't go away." It pretty much has gone away where it matters for the November 6th election because the "news" sources that come to the attention of low information voters -- few of whom read the Wall Street Journal -- have done a great job (from the Obama Administration's perspective) in covering it with ObamaSpin. Fast and Furious? Isn't that a soap opera about casual sex? No, if it were it would attract far more notice. Univision did a pretty good job of covering it after the Principled Media had substantially failed to do their job. Race pandering? Oh? That's what vile White racists who hate President Obama because he is Black do. To complain about that sort of nonsense is deemed "whining by a loser" and does very little good.

Here's my question: How can we, bloggers and others, get convincing messages to the low information true believers -- who at most watch a bit of fluff on television but still vote -- and to those who read and write stuff at the Librul media? I have tried snark, serious stuff and just about everything in between. It does not seem to matter because it preaches only to the choir. I’m delighted that some choir members may read it, but they aren’t the problem. It does not seem to reach many who are tuned into the Principled Media or who get the sort of stuff I received today from the Obama campaign:

Friend --

In just a little while, I'll go on stage to meet Mitt Romney in the first presidential debate here in Denver.

I couldn't be prouder to represent you out there.

You know, it's because of you that affordable health care is within reach for millions more Americans. It's because of you that we've seen 30 straight months of job growth and middle-class families have seen their taxes cut.

Together, we've done a lot -- but there is so much more to do to keep this country moving forward. That only happens if we win this election.

Before tonight's debate, will you chip in $5 or more to help finish this campaign strong?

https://donate.barackobama.com/Stand-With-Me

Can't wait to see what you do tonight.

Barack

I am afraid that most of us are preaching to the choir. That it works for those on the left is important but sheds no light on our problem. They have a loud choir and letters such as this to the Biased News Media are unlikely to do much good; they are doing what they are paid to do. How can “low information voters” who don’t care about much beyond what’s in it for them, and the Librul true believers who encourage them, be reached and maybe, just maybe, convinced? Have we reached a point beyond which that is no longer possible?

Ideas? Pretty please!

What an ignorant crock o' you-know-what. If Romney had his sleeves rolled up and was putting his knuckles to Obie's head every day, the press would be slavishly reporting it.

Sure, they'd do their utmost to give it their best liberal spin, but there's no way they'd be able to bury or ignore it. The stings and jabs to Bozo's empty cranium would be too sensational to hide.

If the nominee were someone like Newt, Palin, or Cain, they'd have the Obama camp, the LSM, and the entire leftoid Borg playing defense right now. Mitt just doesn't have it in him to attack the enemy the way he should.

It’s demographics. Whites are being forced into a minority, and non-whites vote for the Democrats. That’s it in a nutshell.
The obvious solution is stop immigration.

“Is there a way to win the hearts and minds of ObamaVoters?”

No. Of course not.

There is as much possibility of doing that, as there is of convincing conservatives to vote for the ‘rats, and for what the ‘rats represent.

The two sides hold worldviews so far apart, that short of a few “total self-conversions”, the gap can’t be bridged. It’s not so much that the right has moved “further right” (conservative positions don’t change much), it’s that the left has moved far beyond the boundaries of what even traditional democrats once considered normal.

And the left will keep moving leftwards. What will it look like 20 years from now?

Don't overestimate the power of the media. You'd be surprised how many people either tune it out, laugh at its ineptitude, or aren't even near it in the first place. If you are really interested in dealing with Zero voters one-on-one in a way that might persuade them to change, start by listening. Hear them out on what they believe, why they believe it, and consider their sources.

Words and thoughts are exceedingly powerful. That's why we get so perturbed by the media - inept and outdated as they are. But no words spoken outside of the biblical texts are beyond question. Anyway, you/we will make no progress whatsoever by assuming they will never change.

One of the biggest reasons people vote for Obama is because they believe him to be a proponent of justice in taking from the rich and giving to the poor. As such, they consider themselves instruments in making the weak strong, and vice versa. The only problem with that is use of the sword. By using Obama (or government in general) to execute equalization of wealth, they in fact rob both rich and the poor, because the poor no longer have a source and the rich no longer have the opportunity to share. It makes miserable, greedy people of us all. The sword does not change hearts, and the heart is what liberals know best, i.e. they feel more than think.

Knowing these things to be of great concern to both of us, I suggest taking a step back to assess life as a whole and what it is we put our trust in. Americans trust in the Creator of all things and have endured major fluctuations in both adversity and prosperity. Count it a blessing to live in a time when there is not only huge opportunity for good, but also a view into history that is not static, but unique to your experience. We do live in interesting times. Regardless of outcomes in the political realm, it will all come out in the wash.

That is why the Republican establishment killed Newt, Palin and Cain.

I have a feeling that they want zero to win. They are on the same One World Team. Elections are fixed-—all for show and to pretend like we have a choice.

If you have an aquaintence whom you know to be voting for Obama, try asking them to convince *you* to vote for Obama. Try to do it without having your mind made up in advance. Listen to their arguments, but be armed with facts in reply. Offer those facts cordially.

A conservative ought at least yield the point there is some place for government to provide food and shelter for those who literally have no means to contribute to the GDP. Some people are born with physical maladies or other weaknesses, and sometimes working people do not have all it takes to support them.

A conservative should never yield that killing unborn citizens is a matter of convenience or personal choice.

Between those matters there is much room for debate. But it does not help to assume all Obama voters are totally unreasonable, just as it does not help for them to assume the same of you.

In short, invite them to convince you, but don’t play games. Listen first.

Can't disagree with you, Susie. I've said much the same thing many times here.

The good news is that they haven't bought off all the people. Most of us still believe in the promise of the Framers, and we are bound and determined to restore that promise to our nation.

the only way is to take their stuff to redistribute to others that demand it, and watch them talk about how unfair it is. a few may finally have the light click on, but not many.

almost impossible to turn a taker into a maker when they believe they deserve it and the ones being legally robbed deserve to be legally robbed.

Well, we have a better chance at succeeding if Romney gets in. He has some morality at least, unlike the Satanic leader. We will have to strong-arm him.....force him to appoint Tea Party people, like Allen West, etc.

I hope he will, but Romney's never built a bridge to the Tea Party, and no one is going to have the power to force him to appoint the best people, once he's the boss.

He's going to be president. We'll see how he performs.
