After more than a century the Battle of the Alamo still raging, but instead of Mexicans and Texan settlers this time its Fox News and the Democrats new Latino star, San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro.
A Fox News web site article draws ties between Castro and his mother, a member of the La Raza Unida, a radical movement that defended the civil rights of Mexican-Americans in Texas who apparently hates the Alamo.
The article cites a 2010 New York Times Magazine interview with Castro and his mother, who Castro said is his inspiration.
In the article San Antonio native Rosie Castro bashed the Alamo, a longstanding symbol of American courage to many Texans and a tourist hotspot.
Heres Rosie Castros quote in full:
They used to take us there when we were schoolchildren, Rosie Castro told The New York Times Magazine. They told us how glorious that battle was. When I grew up I learned that the heroes of the Alamo were a bunch of drunks and crooks and slaveholding imperialists who conquered land that didnt belong to them. But as a little girl I got the message we were losers. I can truly say that I hate that place and everything it stands for.
In a tweet Washington Posts The Fix reporter Chris Cillizza quoted Julián Castro as saying, We grew up in a political household but we did not like it.

She should find the families of the following men and tell them the same thing.
Juan Abamillo, Juan A. Badillo, Antonio Cruz y Arocha, Alexandro de la Garza, Carlos Espalier, José Gregorio Esparza, Salvador Flores, Antonio Fuentes, Brigido Guerrero, Damacio Jiménez, Toribio Losoya, Andrés Nava, George Pagan, and Juan Seguín.
The United States is known as a “melting pot” for a reason. Of late, it might be better described as a “fermenting pot.” That we harbor, and even enable, people like Mayor Castro’s mother certainly doesn’t help. If this attitude develops and is adopted by other Mexican Americans, expect the Alamo to be demolished. Trust me when I tell you that it won’t matter at all that it is a historic site. Its history will simply be erased.
Rosie Castro’s an idiot. Proof she has no idea what she’s talking about.
granted his mother is an anti-american racist by her own words and groups she belongs too. does this mean the son believes the same thing?
he may or may not but look at the political differences between ronald reagan and his poofer idiot son.
Well Rosie. Why don’t you and a few of your friends try to take it back.
I think you meant “sacred” Only the Mexicans were scared! LOL!
The obvious answer would be to send them both back to mexico so that they may learn from the errors of their ways, but I think the point would be lost on them both.
That bunch of "drunks and crooks and slaveholding imperialists who conquered land that didnt belong to them" held out against a 1500 professional army. It also killed over twice their number before being butchered.
And where, pray tell, did the Spanish slave holding "Mexicans" get the moral authority to conquer land that didn't belong to them?
The savages indigenous to Mexico who practiced human sacrifice and cannibalism certainly weren't members of Santa Ana's army.
And the illiterate criminal illegal aliens who are making irrational demands in a foreign country demanding "their" land back can expect the same result as in 1836; whether aided by the few educated Mexican nationals mayors of southwest cities or not.
Julian Castro is a smirking little imp. He’s nothing like Obama, who at least had a style that appealed to a lot of people.
His sing-songy, patronizing speech at the DNC flopped.
And if he is the second coming Of Obama 2008, he will almost certainly become the Obama of 2012.
One Correction: Colonel Fannin...
And Jim Bowie wasn’t all that bad. He married into the VERAMENDI Family. His father in Law was Governor of Cohuila and Tejas.
It’s not unusual in Texas for first and second generation hispanic Texans to make their kids speak English only. Its looked at as a key to success.
I know several such families, whose kids struggle in high school Spanish along with their peers.
They mean well, but big mistake. A proficiency in multiple languages is always a good thing.
I hope this Castro woman’s nasty attitude puts a stop to her sons’ political careers. I hear Julian is a mediocre mayor at best, San Antonio having problems in a state that, for the most part, is not.
Never happen. The Alamo is not a monument that belongs to San Antonio; it does not belong to Texas. It is a national monument.
If stupid Mexicans (as opposed to civilized ones) attempt to destroy it, there will be lots of Mexican blood. Again.
Might as well suggest that Mt. Rushmore will be erased.
If she did, it puts her in league with General Antonio López de Santa Anna, who has to be tied on the stupidity meter with the stupidest general in the history of warfare.
This would be true if he lost even a single soldier's life at the Alamo, which was mostly a seige, and only a real battle at the end. He lost more than one.
That said, the story of the Alamo was a GREAT story. It has to be tied on the glory meter with every story of heroic sacrifice anyone ever heard.
Mount Rushmore is a bit more remote and more durable than the Alamo. Hope I never have to say, "I told you so."
Si Senor! Did I say that?!?! Aye caramba!
The obvious answer would be to send them both back to mexico so that they may learn from the errors of their ways, but I think the point would be lost on them both

Nah, they are typical libs and would rather stay here and complain about us than go back and straighten out their own homeland.
Like a few years back the transplanted workers from WV and PA would be in Northern VA biatchin about how bad it was here.
General answer was: the same road goes back that ‘brung’ you here....
“Shes a member of La Raza which says it all”
Exactly!!! Remember the nut does not fall far from the tree. Unfortunately there are far to many Latinos whose allegiance lies their ancestry’s country of origin. Ask them if they want America to turn into a hell hole just like Mexico.
I hate La Raza and love the ALAMO...
If you HATE the ALAMO, move to MEXICO you Anti American ILLEGAL MEXICAN WITCH...
The fighters at the Alamo stood for secession and freedom from Mexico. Santa Anna and the Mexicans were the conquerors that were trying to retake Texas. So you must hate freedom.
Travis’ Appeal for Aid at the Alamo
(24 February 1836)
William Barret Travis and almost two hundred other defenders found themselves surrounded at the Alamo Mission in San Antonio in late February of 1836. Refusing to surrender, they held off the invading armies of Mexican Dictator Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna for almost two weeks.
On March 6, the courageous Texans were overrun and slaughtered by well over 2000 Mexicans. The resulting delay of Santa Anna’s eastward movement gave other Texans more time to organize, both politically and militarily, and to ultimately defeat and capture Santa Anna at the Battle of San Jacinto, fought April 21, 1836.
The letter below was written by Travis soon after the Mexicans first appeared in the area around San Antonio. It is often referenced as a supreme example of the virtues of courage and self-sacrifice.
Commandancy of the Alamo
Bexar, Fby. 24th, 1836
To the People of Texas &
all Americans in the world
Fellow Citizens & Compatriots
I am besieged by a thousand
or more of the Mexicans under
Santa Anna. I have sustained a
continual bombardment &
cannonade for 24 hours & have
not lost a man. The enemy
has demanded a surrender at
discretion, otherwise the garrison
are to be put to the sword if
the fort is taken. I have answered
the demand with a cannon
shot, and our flag still waves
proudly from the walls. I
shall never surrender nor retreat.
Then, I call on you in the
name of Liberty, of patriotism, &
of everything dear to the American
character, to come to our aid
with all dispatch. The enemy is
receiving reinforcements daily &
will no doubt increase to three or
four thousand in four or five days.
If this call is neglected, I am deter-
mined to sustain myself as long as
possible & die like a soldier
who never forgets what is due to
his own honor & that of his
country.
Victory or Death
William Barret Travis
Lt. Col. Comdt.
P. S. The Lord is on our side.
When the enemy appeared in sight
we had not three bushels of corn.
We have since found in deserted
houses 80 or 90 bushels & got into
the walls 20 or 30 head of Beeves.
