This season one episode of The Jeffersons is called Like Father Like Son. As is always the case with early seasons of this excellent show, the entire episode is worth watching. But the part I most want to draw your attention to runs from 13:08 to 16:28

The The Jeffersons an excellent show? I stopped reading right there...Many great stories, including hubris and black racism - it ran 10 seasons. What is your standard for excellence?

Eddie Murphy I think used to have a joke where he said he voted for Jesse Jackson for President, then he gets first mad, then fearful when he finds out that he won.

Has anyone else noticed that Jesse and Rev Al have been remarkably quiet?

Wow, that’s excellent. You’d never see that on network TV today.

Tom Willis (the white husband) tells Helen Willis (his black wife) that he will be voting for a black candidate because blacks need more role models and representation in government. He says that the more black people there are in government, the better off blacks will be.
Helen says that black people need good elected officials regardless of their race, and that voting for someone because they are black is just as wrong as voting against someone because they are black.

Now that you mention it I realize you are right. Maybe it is because Romney will win. If that isn’t it, it is scary though.
