As far as I know, the certifiably pro-life Sarah Steelman ( the likely replacement for Akin in the race) is not a flaming liberal. However, as long as Akin refuses to admit that he stepped in it and gave the Democrats all they need to defeat him, then the Senate may very well remain in Democrat control.
So, the net is that a vote for Akin is a vote for McCaskill, Harry Reid, and Barack Obama's agenda to destroy the Republic. Let me know how that works out for you.
47% of Missouri voters now have a "very unfavorable impression" of Akin.
Voters knew that he was pro-life when they elected him. They did not know that he was an idiot. Now they know. He can apologize until he is blue in the face, it won't help. They won't vote for an idiot.
If a player repeatedly scores points for the opposing team, the coach takes him out of the game. If the player wants for his team to win, he swallows his pride, leaves quietly and gracefully, and cheers his replacement on to victory.
Another pro-life Republican without Akin's baggage might still be able to win. Akin should leave the race immediately and support his successor.
Winning the election is critically important. Assigning blame for Akin's problems is not important. Stickin' it to the GOPe is not important.
FOCUS ON WHAT IS IMPORTANT.
Please!
Sorry, this is foolish. His comment makes him the weakest candidate, and there is no recovery from the media spin. Theswine McCaskill will retain her seat against Akin, and lose it to any of the others. Shame on him for not doing the right thing and bowing out. Bob
Sarah never said the comments Tina Fey tattooed her with, and George Allen never uttered the Indian slur, “Macaqua.” George said “Mo-caca,” as in “Mohawk” (which the stalker often wore) and “being a turd.” Palin pointed out that Russia is close enough to be visible from Alaska, and that international relations are front-and-center in the Kodiak because of the proximity of such a major player.
Akin actually said the words that buried his candidacy. It wasn’t a misspeak, either. He GENUINELY meant what he said and GENUINELY believes it. He truly believes a woman's body can simply tell she is being raped and thus prevent pregnancy. He is DISTURBINGLY misinformed.
Let's not pretend this is Conservatives ending Akin’s career. His career is not over. He can continue to serve until retirement as a U.S. Congressman, and have as much impact for the causes he believes in as he wants. But we are under no obligation to sacrifice what could be the deciding vote in the LAST CHANCE to repeal Obamacare, or possibly the deciding vote on a Supreme Court Justice who could overturn Roe v. Wade, at the altar of Akin’s blind ambition.
The stakes (Obamacare, Roe) are far too high and the battle far more important than Akin’s dream of changing offices from one House of Congress to the other.
Akin blew his chance at a promotion. He needs to come to terms with this, like anyone else who blew their shot at a promotion, and be content serving the public and the Pro-Life cause as a Congressman. He cannot win, he simply cannot. Conservatives don't get “do overs” on campaigns, and issues like this never “blow over” when it is folks on our side. That's the agonizing truth. Just as we as Christians must accept that the world hates us unfairly and will always work against our good causes, we must also accept as Conservatives that the deck is stacked against us, and we cannot recover from these kinds of gaffes.
Akin will lose, terribly. The loss may very well ensure the permanency of Obama’s Incremental Socialized Medicine program, either through Obama’s reelection or not having enough votes to overturn it in the Senate if Romney wins. It may also blow our chance to have 50+ votes to confirm the next Alito or Scalia, a critical need if we are to ever finally overturn Roe and Affirmative Action, et al.
It is time for Akin to step down and be content serving as a Congressman, and let Conservatives and the Pro-Life cause in MO take the necessary moves to ensure Claire does not get another SIX YEARS to damage the nation as a Liberal serving a red state.
Akin ended his Senate chances, but nobody is ending his career. We can still support him, he can still vote for us; but we must have at least a glimmer of self-awareness and pragmatism at critical junctures like 2012.
Congressman Akin: Continue to fight the good fight. But please exercise honor and wisdom at this critical time, and be content where you are. Do not live in denial when you will not suffer the loss all by yourself. Do not, in blind ambition, anger, or indignancy, risk crippling the very causes you support. Do not deny what is obviously true simply because it hurts to face withdrawal. You are bigger than this Senate race, and your causes even bigger still. Please allow us to win this Senate seat in your stead.
May wisdom overtake ambition, and good sense overtake wounded emotions. We will still root for you as you legislate from the House.
So that Claire McCaskill can be Senator for another six years?
And last time I checked we can’t control the narrative of the liberal media. They will run with this 24/7 and attempt to tie every Republican to Akin.

We can certainly control the leftist narrative by laughing at it, ignoring it, and changing the subject. Stop being Alinskyed.
I agree. The left is expected to react the way they do but to have GOP leaders do the same over something that should’ve been something they should’ve simply deflected and moved on. Instead they helped fan the flames blowing up what was a minor flub into a inner party blood feud. Akin can still recover. Akin needs to work on repairing the damage by running ads reminding people what this election is about. Its not about rape it is about repealing Obamacare and stopping the bad policies Claire McCaskill and Obama have produced. If I were the RNC I’d send in a crack team to help rehabilitate Akin. They already planned to spend the money. There is nothing gained by them not helping. It wouldn’t take a lot to put Todd back in the lead. I expect McCaskill to fall back under 50%. The problem isn’t just Akin. The duel pronged attack on McCaskill and Obama is helpful in general. I just wish folks would get their eye back on the ball. I support Steelman initially but I will never support this kind of gotcha politics especially when it is being focused on one of our own.
These same folks did nothing to detract from Murkowski in Alaska with her act of betrayal after she lost the primary and what she did was far worse than anything Akin said and she didn’t lose anything nor was threatened with the loss of committee assignements. So lets get a move on and win this race. We can do it.
Inquiring minds want to know.
Why the uproar over one ill-advised comment? Has the country lost its senses completely?
The later question was answered in November 2008. The evidence is sitting in the white house.
As for the former question, the reason for the uproar is that it provides fodder for the DemocRAT talking point of the war on women. Women do not have magic bodies which can ward off conception even by rape.
Many a stupid high school girl has found out that penis withdrawal before semen discharge or even the lack of penis penetration altogether doesn't prevent conception. Sperm can fertilize egg even when they are present in the clear fluid which discharges shortly after an erection is achieved and lands in the vaginal region with zero penis penetration whatsoever. It takes only an itty bitty microscopic drop. It may not be common, but it is possible. A swimming sperm cell cannot swim more than a couple of inches over dry skin, but it can use any type of lubrication to swim short distances including, but not limited to, the erection lubrication discharge and bodily secretions as common as sweat or minor vaginal discharge.
Akin was a fool to take the bait. He insulted not only potentially persuadable women who might have voted for him, but a lot of conservative women as well. It was worse than the maccaca outburt by at least a factor of 1000.
We can pontificate all we want on how a conception by rape is innocent, but it was a common exception long before Roe v. Wade institutionalized abortion on demand. It is about as realistic to think we are going to overturn such an exception by political action in today's climate as thinking we can bring back public hangings.
Not that I think bringing back public hangings is a bad idea.
So let's say he steps down, Sarah Steelman (endorsed by pro-life women's groups and Sara Palin) becomes the candidate. The money floods back in to the race and in at least this one case, Palin and the GOPe are in agreement. Win Win.
At that point I'm pretty sure the Claire McCaskill factor would still be in play. But the Republican candidate would not be spending all their waking hours answering for what at best, is a misstatement. He has given the Dems the ammunition they need to defeat him. Yeah, McCaskill is a very weak candidate but somehow she has managed to win before. Why take that chance when the balance in the Senate, and thus the balance in the Republic, is at stake?
When did Romney change his mind on abortion?
People say that a lot, I have not seen any evidence which supports that conclusion.
I posted a time line awhile back of his abortion actions, and yes in January of 2012 Romney said in effect, call me pro-life now.
Do not know about Akin’s wife.
The people who know him say he has been a huge supporter of life in congress, and has been able to block many things which furthers abortion.
The whole world - really outside people who closely follow politics no one cares what he said.
Their spellcheck must be set for "musician".
I agree. But at this point there are only 9 weeks to go. We can’t risk the distractions and wasted time. For example, Scott Brown spent two days refuting a Liz Warren ad that tied him to Warren. So even though she lied and the word got out. Brown wasted two days talking about abortion, and not the economy. And we need Brown more than ever, ironically, now that Akin is done.

So stop talking about abortion
That is a done subject... and a distractor to the poor job Hussian has done leading the country. The economy is the issue. turn every statement. Always.
