Why Aiken Should not Back Down
Townhall ^ | August 24, 2012 | Mike

Posted on 08/25/2012 6:52:05 PM PDT by kathsua

The only mainstreamers coming to Todd Aiken's defense so far have been Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council and now Mike Huckabee. His detractors have been legion, from almost all major media figures to politicians at the top levels. Why the uproar over one ill-advised comment? Has the country lost its senses completely?

Any serious explanation of affording legal protection for unborn human persons engenders intensively vitriolic hate in America. We have become a nation of God haters, and Aiken's comment has exposed who they are, whether we are talking about media blabbermouths Coulter, Hannity, Limbaugh, Palin and others too numerous to mention, so-called religious leaders, RNC political bosses, or political figures from the top level down, Romney, Ryan and Obama, they have one thing in common. At some level they all hate God the Creator and Author of life.

Don't they know that life is so sacred that there can be no justification for deliberately murdering human persons at any stage of life, hence no abortion exceptions? Why are they so intent on making an abortion exception for pregnancies that rarely occur, as Aiken himself pointed out? And unless we distinguish between real and fake rape situations, i.e. women claiming to have been raped who actually have consented, this valid rationale for denying an exception is completely lost.

Rape and abortion are both bad for America. We need lawmakers and leaders willing to make the hard decisions, and pay the political price if necessary, to deal with these problems, not more wimps.

I understand your sentiments, but, at least know how to spell the dude’s name if you’re gonna vote for him. It’s Akin.

Hey, I’m all for supporting our candidates when they make a mistake, but I have limits.

If Elizabeth Warren were to say that she supports infanticide during the first 3 months of life, because the baby is basically no more aware of itself than before it’s born, I suspect the Democrats would want to dump her also.

I put the Akin statement at that level of stupidity for a candidate to say.

I think it is pretty much given now that the attacks on Akin were in regard to his stand on abortion...they have nothing to do with his comments.

None of GOP talk radio media are truly conservative, or they would have stood by Akin after he made his apology. Yes they are Pro-Abortion.

Allen didn’t step down. He lost a very close race in a very bad year for Republicans.

You are correct. I made a mistake in recollection. Ironically, it strengthens my case because that campaign showed how the Democrats will hammer Republicans who make serious gaffes. And defeat them.

So let me see if I get this correct:
abortion for convenience - no
abortion for incest - no
abortion for health of the mother - no
abortion because of rape - sure why not
How is the baby conceived from rape less innocent than the others?
Or what is it you are saying?

Thesis: Palin (and every other Akin critic) is a God hater...
______________________________________________________________

You are such a dumb ass. Did you finish High School? You must be a total embarrassment to your family. Are you competing with Tennessee Nana for the “Most Stupid Post of the Day”? You make a statement like that and then your tagline says: “Sarah Palin 12...no one else.” Why would you want a “God hater” for President? HUH????

What is it post #3 that you find ignorant?
Or did it surprise you that someone pointed out that Romney is a supporter of abortion?

Allen had the good sense and humility to step down.

Allen didn't step down. He ran the race to the end, and lost by 1/3 of 1% in an awful year for Republicans (2006).

Of all people, he had no business telling Akin to step down.

No, he just proved he's like the rest of the GOPe crowd; NO BALLS & NO BACKBONE.

Actually I was wrong. Allen didn't withdraw. Instead he soldiered on against an unscrupulous Democratic opposition that mercilessly and relentlessly hammered away at his comment. And HE LOST THE ELECTION. So is it better to give the Dems that kind of ammunition and the opportunity to continually use it to defeat Akin, or is the wise choice to withdraw to avoid ceding control of the Senate? In some sense it might be noble to fight on. But when the control of the Senate is at stake it is not noble at all. It is ego and foolhardy.

You want balls and backbone? The let Akin do the courageous thing, get his ego out of the way and step down to allow the party to pick a replacement who will give McCaskill a real race.

Allen didn't step down.

You are right, and I posted my correction in #24. But Allen lost because he gave the Dems the ammunition they needed to defeat him. Akin should definitely take a lesson from that. Unless he thinks that his running is somehow a noble cause (despite the fact that the other Republicans are strong pro-life candidates) even though it may very well result in the illegitimate rape of the Republic.

You are such a dumb ass. Did you finish High School? You must be a total embarrassment to your family.

You need to read the story again. And read my post fully before calling me a dumbass.

The thesis of the story claims any Akin critic is a God-hater including Palin, Hannity, Limbaugh, Levin, etc. Which is clearly childish and intellectually bankrupt.

I'd hope for an apology.

He's not claiming the rape itself is "legitimate", only the complaint. One of the problems of allowing abortion in the case of rape is that some women will claim rape to get an abortion.

Oh for chrissakes who the hell cares!!!! This election is about the economy and jobs! Democrats don't want to talk about the economy and jobs. They'd rather talk about "legitimate" rape and abortion and thanks to freakin' IDIOTS like Akin, that's exactly what we're talking about!

We shouldn't even be having this discussion right now.

The only thing Akin is guilty of is being inarticulate and for apologizing when he shouldn't have.

It is shameful that the GOP did their best to destroy "one of their own", (Christian conservative).

What is even more shameful is that FReepers joined so readily and gleefully in the MSM driven feeding frenzy.

Can you say Ba-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a?

BA-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A-A! BA-A-A-a-a-AAAA-aaaaaaaa. Ba-a-a-a-A-aaaaa. BAAAAA-aaaaaaaa. b-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-aaaaa.

Now go vote for the flaming liberal with the R next to his name like good little GOP sheep.

The media have been misrepresenting Aiken's comments.

Worse yet, looks like the idiot blogger whose vomit you posted for reasons known only to yourself is misrepresenting Todd Akin.
