Forum: Chick-fil-A at BU a welcome addition

Re. Aug. 14 story, "BU food court pick draws complaints":

Bradley alumnus Eric Miller is quoted in the story as stating that allowing the Chick-fil-A restaurant at Bradley University counters the core values of what it means to be a Brave. BU's mission statement infers that they "represent a diverse learning community that acknowledges respect and understanding of all individuals."

Chick-fil-A is a top-rated enterprise devoted to helping young people develop new skills while they gain employment. Outstanding service is promoted among employees. Their chicken sandwich is rated high in taste in Consumer Reports. The fact that they are successfully opening new outlets, while other fast-food companies falter, should be business news headlines.

When we enter Chinese restaurants and note tokens of the Buddist faith, that does not cause us to refrain from eating there. Likewise, sports bars have their memorabilia hanging on the walls, and other restaurants choose what they wish to promote. Chick-fil-A restaurants have no offensive messages promoting President Dan Cathy's beliefs on their interior. No one is forced to eat in those food establishments. What happened to "diversity," the mantra which homosexuals have hidden behind in the past decade? Apparently they promote tolerance only when tolerance is in their best interest.

The Bradley community has embraced a spectrum of nationalities. The Chick-fil-A restaurant would be a welcome addition to the community. Shame on those attempting to intimidate a reputable company from conducting business, simply because of a differing opinion.

“...they ‘represent a diverse learning community...’”

There’s the key phrase of leftist, liberal-demoncrap hate and intolerance.

” Shame on those attempting to intimidate a reputable company from conducting business, simply because of a differing opinion.”

True words from the writer.

We shouldn't even be having these discussions. It is one thing to boycott a business because they conduct themselves in an illegal or unethical manner. It is another thing entirely to boycott a business because people disagree with the political opinions of the owner.

Of course similar boycotts have been encouraged on Free Republic for years. It is one thing for people to say that they will never ever go to see an Adam Sandler movie again because Adam Sandler just isn't funny. It is another thing for them to say they will never see another movie by Alec Baldwin just because he is an Obama supporter.

(And yes I am fully aware that there are people who think Alec Baldwin is a horrible actor, or who haven't seen a Hollywood movie in years ... or decades ... because they believe it to be an irredeemable sex & violence & profanity laden sewer. But despite his bad politics and his hypocritical and vapid threats to renounce his citizenship, the speech Baldwin gave in "Glengarry Glen Ross" was very good IMHO.)
